My personal favorite wine glass is the Riedel Vitis for Cabernet/Bordeaux and Schott Zwiesel for Burgundy. For whites, I have some Riedel’s (the non-fancy/schmancy type) very basic.
For parties I have a big stash of Riedel “O”. Had only one broken in a year.
The shape is nice, they have a low center of gravity to they don’t get knocked over easily and, they’ll BOUNCE if your cat knocks one to the floor! Plus they are $7.50 each.
I use Schott Zwiesel “Forte” Burgundy glasses for all my red wines, with an occasional usage of the Riedel O Cabernet tumblers. I have a set of SZ “Forte Claret” Burgundy glasses, which are taller and hold much more liquid compared to the normal Fortes.
Believe it or not, for everyday use we have Riedel Vinum series water glasses. They are small and convenient, and the shape actually works very well for every sort of wine. They aren’t too terribly expensive to replace.
We are believers in the way that different shaped glasses alter the nose and taste of wine, and we have cab and pinot Riedel glasses for special occasions or special wines. But every evening at dinner we generally take out those water glasses. Only problem with them is that they can be hard to find.
