just wondering which appellations you think Jadot does especially well with.
I’ve had pretty good luck with their csj, amoureuses, lavaux, grands ech (maison). I haven’t bought their whites in a very long time.
thanks

I don’t have much experience, but am always happy with the few vintages of Clos des Ursules that I’ve had.
Ursules in one of the great values in Burgundy. Especially with 20 years of age.
Clos Saint Jacques.
The two Jadot wines I buy with any regularity.
Bonnes Mares and Clos de Beze
GC Clos St. Jacques
Beaune Clos des Ursules
Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes Domaine Gagey
Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
I understand that they have gone to DIAM for their whites. If this solves their premox issues, I would think (based on tasting the wine from barrel on visits there) that the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne Domaine du Duc de Magenta would belong on the list.
Do note that all of the red Jadot wines I own were made when Jacques Lardiere was there. I have only had very young red wines from their current winemaker.
Ursules also as the top value, but more than anything else when prices were reasonable, it was great to taste all the different 1er Beaune vineyard expressions they gave us access to.
Clos St Jacques
Chambertin Clos de Beze
Musigny
**All of these need a good amount of cellaring, though. Ryan Curry opened a 79 Jadot Musigny for me out in LA years back. That was my original “epiphany” wine for Jadot.
These are the 3 that come to mind for me as well.
Add in the Bonnes Mares and the Amoureuses and that’s my list…
Ursules is a go to of course
Patrick and I went there in October and we had a great experience with an extended three hour tour
But the high level discussion here in the U.K. is whether in the burgundy hierarchy Jadot is a second-rate or third-rate producer?
Given that there are so many exciting growers on the up
Jadot is a big conservative organisation and it will take a lot for it to depart from its current successful formula
I tend to enjoy their various Beaune 1er’s as value plays that (as Dennis points out) drink well at 20. Ursules is step above the rest, but often priced so.
Corton Pougets is great & their own, but needs lots of time.
Less experience in CdN, but their CM Fuees is very good and their maison Vosne Suchots is good and a bargain for the vineyard.
Beze is my favorite
Then in some order, for reds:
CSJ
Estournelles
Clos St. Denis (arguably the best of them all)
Corton Pougets
Boudots (sleeper)
Rugiens (sleeper)
Various Beaune wines
Of course, there are many I haven’t had. I’ve heard great things about the Musigny and Amoureuses but I can’t recall having any.
The real story w/ Jadot is the quality of their whites in recent vintages. I’ve had exceptional experiences starting in about '14, and if you look at Cornwell’s more recent White Burg check-ins, Jadot has done very, very well. DIAM too. Jadot’s '17 Meursault Perrieres was one of my favorite whites last year, and his Chevalier is always tops.
Le Musigny, Chambertin Clos de Beze, Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques, Chapelle-Chambertin, Beaune Clos des Ursules, Clos Vougeot (great value), and Chevalier-Montrachet “Les Demoiselles” are all superb offerings. I’m sure there are many others as well. In my view Jadot is a consistently underrated producer, in part due to its identification as a negociant (even though many of their offerings are from their own properties) and the fact that their reds generally take some time to come around.
CSJ is in sweet spot for high quality and reasonable pricing.
You improve your luck with the domaine Gagey vines. I’m partial to the Gagey Clos St Denis. A little less big than the other GCs.
And here’s a tip for value play: Santenay Clos des Gatsulards Domaine Gagey. Just bought case of 19. A mouthful of a name, but a good mouthful! Persistent and succulent wine for its level.
Beaune Ursules
Amoureuses
Bonne Mares
Chapelle Chambertin
Clos St. Jacques
In the days before premox hit I thought their whites were better than their reds. If they’ve solved the problem…
A sneaky reason why they’re underrated, at least in my view: the ugly labels and the fact that, for that reason, from a distance the $1,000 Musigny looks no different from the $10 Beaujolais Villages.
If Jadot started putting fancy labels and wax capsules on their Grand Crus/CSJ (a la what Gouges is doing with the LSG, and Arnoux-Lachaux, etc.), I bet they could charge another 25% right away.
used to love Chevy Demoiselles. Blows away Latour’s version.
Clos st Jacques!!!
They switched to DIAM in 11 and the whites have been nothing short of excellent since then imo. They were doing cork testing for about a decade when Freddie took over, but he’s been the guiding hand since 2011 and I’ve greatly enjoyed his wines.
Corton Pouget
