I think some of the concern I’ve caused about the impracticality of answering the original question in this thread is due to the fact that I’ve conflated two separate questions:
- What are the best ages to open wines from a particular region?
- What are the best vintages to sample now to orient oneself to the progression of wines from a particular region?
My assumption was that an answer to the first question would also pretty easily satisfy my current, more urgent need to buy wines according to the answer to the second question. So efficient! However, it seems like asking the first question creates some consternation which distracts from the second simpler and more clearly practical question. To clarify, I’ve split the second question into its own thread:
