Vin et Hip Hop Burgundy

A few weeks ago I was in Burgundy for the Vin et Hip Hop. This is organized by Jeremy Seysses and Loic Lamy along with a small company that does more boutique wine events. Jermaine Stone from the US a podcaster brought in the talent from Brooklyn and Paris. A night of wine sharing ensued at the Bastion and the next night a party with 750 guests at the Clos. The wines were provided by many of Burgundy’s best wineries. I have a few pics here and a short video for you if it works. It was a fun few days. Thanks to wineries like Arnoux-Lachaux, Rousseau, Vincent Dancer and others for making their wines affordable for the event. (We were not allowed to take the bottles off premise.)
I hope you enjoy the pics.

I’ll get some pics up when I get back home Don. I’m telling all of you now - Hip Hop Burgundy is the best celebration of Burgundy out there - right after harvest + with next generation wine makers there to celebrate and taste the new vintage - not classical music - the music and celebration matches the generation! Jeremy S. and the other folks that organize this have hit the nail on the head - party music in the Clos Vougeot with all the young folk - fully taking over now or soon enough with the traditions that make Burgundy so special. All of the best that Burgundy has to offer without any of the stuffiness that can sometimes be present. Love it and love burgundy! So many great wines were tasted - a mag of ‘17 Mugnier Musigny was great :). All of the “new” Arnoux-Lachaux that has gotten super expensive were great - dare I say worth the tariff :)?

Right after - can’t hurt to poke some days at Troisgros then down to Alba for some truffles also - quick drive - thx for driving Andrew :).

Is this an annual thing? Should reach out to Action Bronson, I bet he would come.

I bet his appearance fee is just a smidge higher than the acts they got :wink:

Probably but Charli2na was great. I am not a big Hip Hop collector but this guy is great. Smif and Wessun and some DJ from Paris. It is every year going forward I think and coming to other towns too. October this year .

in addition, the nyt wrote this up a few weeks ago

Yeah, I know who he is. Have seen his old group, Jurassic 5, a bunch of times when I was in middle and high school (late90s/early2000). He’s great and I have no doubt this event is an amazing time, it looks incredibly fun! But Action Bronson is a current day artist that is very popular not just in music, but in the food and wine space too. He would be like 10x or more what they paid for the acts that they got.

Maybe, but part of the selling proposition is the experience. The tastings with the winemakers that are impossible to get appointments with these days, all the free wine, a great trip in Burgundy. When you have that to offer, you can get people to take a lot less if they are interested in that.

In my experience, you don’t get entertainers to take a paycut unless it’s a personal favor or for some kind of charity, but who knows? Definitely not me. Either way it looks pretty crowded from the pics, and there’s some of the greatest wines on earth assembled under one roof, so it doesn’t seem they need to book bigger acts to sell tickets.

I was talking to a woman who helps throw this event, and it sounded like they got some pretty big names.

Yeah they sell out early because they keep the max fairly reasonable.

The proceeds go to a fund called the Roots Fund to help minorities get a leg up in the wine world. They sponsor people at the local colleges of wine in France.
