UPS / Zachy's - 'Package Damaged'. How Concerned Should I Be?

That really sucks.

Sorry to hear about those bottles Rich, hopefully they weren’t destroyed, there are very few of each of those left. A wine I’ve always wanted to try. I’m really hoping you only lost 1.

I had this happen with Zachy’s on a 3-pack of 2019 Lafleur. They didn’t protect them at all in transit. Sad day when the UPS man showed up at my door with juice pouring out of the box

on the plus side, Zachy’s were very kind about the whole thing and sent me replacements once weather improved.

Hope it not true Rich, keep some faith as several have noted the communication is not top notch for any of these companies. Hopefully someone in the chain will make a proper executive decision and salvage what’s left.

I used to load trucks for them ~25 years ago during summer at college. I’m sure it’s so much more organized now but those loading depot could be absolutely brutal.

For something irreplaceable like that they probably should be double boxing. I’ve personally done it for wine not even approaching how special that is.

Damn that sucks. I got the same message last year from UPS on a JJB shipment, and UPS tossed the entire case. So frustrating.

Thanks Matt! The sad thing is i was supposed to receive 4 Angelicas and 2 Ports…and i only had 1 Angelica in the box i did receive :sob:

Again, im really trying to keep some perspective here (certainly 1st world problems)…but its just crushing to me that these historic bottles were potentially destroyed for literally no good reason at all.

So sorry that happened to you as well…but im glad you ultimately got the replacements!

Thanks Robert! Im still holding out a little hope, but sadly, its not sounding great. But ill keep my fingers crossed!

Ughhh. Soooo frustrating that UPS would be so lazy and just toss the entire case. Obviously thats much 'easier ’ for them…but from a human standpoint, it sucks so bad :frowning:

Indeed! Legendary and irreplaceable. Part of California winemaking history.

Indeed, quite the history.

Rich, I would block…Zachy’s… :innocent:

Oof, I ordered some of the Harbor Winery olorosos from Corti Bros - and just got the dreaded UPS ā€˜damaged’ notification. I suspect I’m ass out on these, as Corti makes it clear that they are not able to insure shipments.

Ughhh. Sorry Greg! I ordered some of that as well but dont think it arrived yet

Sounds like you have a 50/50 shot of UPS pulling the bottles that did not break or trashing the whole case. Unfortunately i finally spoke to a supervisor last week who was helpful, she connected with the damage department…who confirmed that ā€˜all 12 bottles were damaged so they discarded the entire case’. Obviously the odds of all 12 bottles breaking is VERY small so its absolutely infuriating…but what can you do :frowning:

Hope your situation ends a bit better than mine @Greg_Gardner !

Yeah, their definition of ā€˜damage’ in your case could have been stained labels on some bottles. Not much I can do now except wait and see what, if anything, shows up back at Corti Bros.

Also, Rich - that truly sucks. Any reimbursement from UPS?

Sorry to hear that Rich, I think we were all pulling for your wine to find somebody reasonable in the custody chain
