Yea. Good point. I find on FB, Twitter and my blog there is almost zero anger and attacks. I prefer it that way.

I was being . . . a little sarcastic. Your comment seemed to out of place. Roberto started this thread implying that you were the sort of person that Parker was insulting in his comments. I think that’s a reasonable implication.

Meanwhile, I had just watched the video on your website (that Serge pointed to here) which is clearly intended to bash those who follow Parker (among others). So your comment seemed downright wacky to me.

Then again, after Jay’s post, maybe this should be renamed “The Twilight Zone thread”. [shrug.gif]

Because, like Parker, what you really want is a one-way street, a place where you can give your opinion and denigrate others, but not deal with the “bad vibes” of someone disagreeing with you or calling you on your bullshit.

Both Facebook and Twitter reward short teddy-bear and ponies comments with no room or patience for developing an idea. The best discussion groups (and I miss big chunks of Usenet, if for no other reason than it didn’t support smilies or space-wasting avatars) give someone room and time to develop more-sophisticated discussion. I’m not arguing that most Web forums actually turn out this way, but some do. I think the “Cellar Rats” sub-forum here is a great example of why forums can do what FB and Twit cannot.

Blogs are more like op-ed pages where an editor controls the content. I read some blogs, and rarely comment because … why bother? The structure of the comment format does not enhance two-way communications. I read them because I like the blog author, and not for the comments.

I’m a newbie here and don’t know much about the personalities, so I have no opinion about the positives or negatives of having people drop out. I do know that this is the most lively wine forum I’ve found, even if I have to skip over about 80% of it as irrelevant to me personally.

If you’d like a newbie opinion, you all are not nearly as nasty as some of you think you are.

No Ken, I can’t deal with angry mobsters like you who pick apart every little thing every body says and turns into something it is not. The video was a tasting note on LPDH and I love the wine and jokingly said this is my bias and this how RMP tastes things like Pegau, etc. It;s a joke, but people here don’t know what that means. Cannot even post a damn tasting note here without getting excoriated. You are proving my point Ken. You and tons of others just LIKE to argue.

So Ken, do you actually read my blog? Please point out where I denigrate others. I post tasting notes, travel stories, wine videos and my robot movies which are satire. This is the place where denigration happens. Not Rockss and Fruit.

In person I argue, hug, kiss, drink, laugh, frown, etc. Online hard to do those and emoticons are gay.

To the point of the article, I don’t know how anyone can see this as anything other than Parker berating people that don’t share the EXACT same opinions that he has. That ain’t bashing…it unfortunately, is the truth.

As i’ve said before, that’s hypocrisy. You can’t post strong opinions on controversial topics, then call out others who do the same thing when they disagree with you. That’s rank intellectual dishonesty. If you don’t want to be disagreed with then you’re right, a board is the wrong place for you. Or at least topics that are controversial are. Now, sometimes we go over the line. I’ve done it and regretted it. For the times I’ve really gotten personal and pissed at you, I apologize.

On the other hand, it’s hard to have a discussion with you. You also seem incredible sensitive - just a bit over the line and it’s like we’ve killed your puppy and burned down your house. There’s nothing really angry in Ken’s post, but you seem to take the slightest offense as a deadly insult. It makes it pretty much impossible to post in threads with you because unless we agree with you we get exorciated for being filled with rage, etc etc.

Finally, for someone who left this board because you don’t like it here, you’re posting an awful lot. [truce.gif]
