TNs: 1989 Trimbach and 2003 Harlan

The wines below, with a couple of others, were drunk during dinner at Marea last week.

1989 Trimbach Cuvee Frederick Emile Vendange-Tardive, Alsace
With 2 other bottles that I’ve had within the last 12 months, this one was easily the most vibrant in showcasing its pedigree. It had sufficient minerality, a-nice-touch-of-honey component, and was truly refreshing. Smooth and balanced, this nicely-mature Trimbach pleased everone throughout the course of the dinner. A delight when paired with my excellent Lobster and Burrata appetizer. A-

2003 Harlan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Very dark and inky red. Medium-bodied. Slight chocolaty. Layers of blueberries and ripe blackberries, smooth tannin and silky in the mouth. It’s a “nice-to-drink” wine, but somehow there’s just not enough there for me to justify buying at the just-under $300 (iirc) release price tag. B+
