TN: NV Meiomi Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

To say this is terrible would be the understatement of the year. Brown sugar, overripe plums and no acidity. No I did not buy this and tried at a friends house who thought the wine was to sweet. Yes it is SWEET. There will not be a two or three day review on this one. No wine was actually ingested and did the swish and spit technique followed by some grapes to kill the taste. (68 pts.)

Kicking off the weekend with this gem! [wow.gif]

I had trouble entering in tracker because I did not want to know how to spell it correctly!!!

Pinot Noir has the capacity and brilliance to reflect so much, to transcend the senses. Yet to craft a wine from the grape that is styled this way just kinda makes me sad. I’m not in favor of telling people what they drink is not right, but I will never put anything Caymus related for Pinot Noir anywhere near me.

When a friend has it out I got a try it. If nothing more to educate how bad and flawed it is. Good thing they only spent $10 at the Total Wine.

I have no desire to revisit that wine or anything, friend or not. I’m very lucky that dorks who choose to put up with me, they drink well and don’t get anywhere near this stuff being served to each other.

Every once in a while a bottle like this, or maybe some bourbon barrel aged monstrosity will sneak into a blind tasting as a joke. It’s at least good for a laugh.

The wine is not ‘flawed’ - it just does not show any pinot ‘typicity’. The fact that it is as popular as it is shows how much the average wine consumer knows or, better yet, cares.

Remember, the members of this board, at least the vocal ones I should say, do not represent the ‘average’ wine consumer . . .

Cheers.

Mr S, about the only thing I would do with Meiomi is find a drain that I don’t mind staining when I dump it out, probably as John wanted to.

To each their own, my friend!

Cheers.

I posted this on a Facebook Group and plenty are vocal on how bad it is. There is no hint of acidity. I would say it is a flawed product.

I am looking forward Larry to those wines my brother is sending! Cheers, John

A flaw will be some sort of taint from either flawed winemaking or cork taint. What you described is what it is. Flawed wine? No. To your tastes, not even close. I am more than certain there was some discernible acidity. Just because you didn’t feel the prickle doesn’t mean it’s not there. This is one of those cases where you are applying the subjective to the objective. That’s all well and good, but then why did you give it a 68 if you are claiming it’s flawed?

Not to deadhorse but . . .

Whenever I see a negative reference to Meiomi Pinot Noir, I think back to when it an enjoyable wine for us that was in our regular rotation. That was maybe 10 or so years ago. I know we stopped drinking it when the wine in the bottle became different. I think that was not long after Constellation brought the brand for a few hundred million dollars.

Sweet sells, not only with wine, but also with food.

Truer words have never been spoken except for members of the board! [cheers.gif]

Correction - the VOCAL members of this board. My guess is that there are plenty of lurkers who dig it but are ‘scared’ to voice thier opinions for fear of being ‘judged’ . . .

Are you sure you are not talking about the WS board! [wow.gif]

It’s sad and confusing that we use one word to describe products like meiomi and all the stuff we usually discuss here. It’s all wine. And yet so very different. I’ve often thought it would be great if we could have two different words. Here we discuss wine. Stuff that is made (more or less) from grapes but is manufactured on chemically engineered production lines like Coke or other soda pop drinks would have have a different name. Grape - alcohol - pop. Gralcopop???

I had it once when it was included non-ironically in a “The Wines of Europe” tasting that my company paid some vendor to put on. I thought it was terrible. I’ve recently learned that some members of my family and some extended family love it. I’m trying not to be too judgmental…

Well when serving to them it will save a lot of money! [cheers.gif]

I get judged regularly for liking shrill, fruitless, acidic Champagne and yet I still poke my head up to have a take on stuff I don’t like, as I did here. I am sure people can withstand my post about calling the Meiomi wine horrible or whatever I said it was.

Larry, by the way I love you man. flirtysmile And I am not afraid to be vocal about it.
