TN: 2023 Julian Haart „J. J.“ Riesling Kabinett - more clues about 2023

You know I have not tried one. I bought a ton.

I do not think you will be disappointed. :+1:

The other day, after work, Johannes poured me a couple of 2023s—namely, Gisela and Mia. These are light and bright Kabinetts. Mia has a marked herbal aroma. It smells like marijuana.

Drank these side by side. I’ll say it again 2022 is one of my favs in recent vintages. Based on these 2023 is bigger/lower in acidity. Very good but very different. 2022 Armes is just perfect :kissing_heart:.

2023 is lower in acidity??!!

Much lower and also bigger. Edit. Reminds a bit of 2018 to be honest.

@Lars_Carlberg

What is your impression regarding 2023 and acidity, Lars?!

I can only speak for Hofgut Falkenstein, but the 2023 vintage has high (ripe) acidity and low pH levels.

It is a heterogeneous vintage, but there certainly is a proportion of wines which did remind me of riper and less acidic years. (More so outside from the top producers who are most commonly discussed here.)

My first impulse was to put it the ‘baseline’ somewhere between 18 and 20.

Hopefully Mythos Mosel next weekend will be a useful data point.

I heard that the 2023s are generally riper than the 2022s in the Middle Mosel.

I would say ’23 armes kabi feels most ripe vintage of this wine after 2018.

As I mentioned before, the 2023 Kabinett wines at Hofgut Falkenstein had low must weights but from low yields. For example, we harvested Gisela at a mere 81 degrees Oechsle.

I have to say I am so glad I went long 2021! I remember thinking we might not have another vintage like that for a long time. Not saying that 22 or 23 are bad just that 21 is perfect for my palate.

I think that 2023 is one of our best vintages.

Thanks for the tip. I agree this is one of the better 2022s I have had. It has nice dry extract, depth and grip. It might not be high acid but it does not have the softness I am finding in some 2022s. Overall I really liked it.

Soft is a good way to describe the '22 Schaefer GD Kabi I had on Friday. Drinkable, but lacking the electricity I want.

To me the Keller RR is possibly the best 22 I’ve had so far, amongst a very strong line-up from a vintage that I’m growing more and more fond of.

I happy to hear that as we did a source | material offer on that wine. As of now the majority of 22s I have tasted have come from the Mosel so I have hope for non-Mosel wines. Of course KP does great in every vintage.

The 2022 Himmelreich Kabinett is the same. At least, that’s my impression.

Do you think these pick up a little weight with time? Any other prior comparable vintages come to mind?
