TN: 2019 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé (France, Provence, Bandol)

Posted from CellarTracker

I havent tried it for a year, has it settled down at all?

Yes. It’s not a great vintage for this wine, but it just tastes like Tempier.

Might let my case sit for a couple of years longer, I didnt much care for the bottle I opened when they arrived, Thanks for the data point.

Wise choice

‘19 was only the second vintage I’ve been able to buy in any quantity. Curious what it is about this vintage that is lacking vs others?

Cool. I guess I won’t stress the fact that my Aug. 2020 order is still on pre-arrival.

It’s a bit lighter in flavor/depth based on the two bottles I have had so far, but not egregiously so. It is still very young, especially for Tempier Rosé.

As David said, it is a lighter wine, but I also detect some overripe elements in the phenolics and slightly coarse tannins. Tempier added some more land to their holdings for rose production so maybe going forward this is what this bottling will look like, maybe it just needs a few years to settle down (the 15 is drinking very very well at the moment)

Thanks for the explanation guys. Curious if you’ve had the 2020 yet? I felt like it had a bit more concentration than the '19’s. And 20 was maybe ever-so-slightly less ripe.

nah, my allocation got pillaged by the importer because some shipments got lost by couriers here in New Zealand, I only got mags of the 20 and I havent opened one yet.

Nope. No 2020 notes yet here either.

2019 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé - France, Provence, Bandol (4/12/2022)
– popped and poured on Day 1; revisited on Day 8 –
– tasted non-blind over a couple hours on Day 1 –

NOSE: very light aromatics when it still had a chill on it; lightly fruity with some pleasant green elements; overall, much lighter on the Nose than I’ve come to expect from this bottling. Day 8: more expressive than on Day 1; lightly peachy florals and tangerine; still on the lighter side, however.

BODY: pinkish brass color; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: slightly oily mouthfeel; most action is on the mid-palate, and pretty lacking at the front and the back; much better near room temp. than chilled; strawberry water (very light flavor). Day 8: little bitter purple grape aspirin note now; light warm woodsy tones and richer fruit on the palate today than on Day 1 (still light, however). Overall, hoping I caught this at a closed period in its life because as it drinks today, it’s pretty boring and unimpressive. Gut impression score: mid 80s.

Have only looked at 1 bottle of the 2019 so far and it was corked!

I agree this was better at cellar temp or even a little warmer. I loved it.

that will teach you for buying in the secondary market, LOL

Lacking the depth and complexity that I am used to from Tempier. Not just lighter but sort of one note. Tested over three days with little if any improvement.

Wasn’t this this case we split?

Yes it was, thanks for taking one for the team

Popped a bottle tonight, and it has evolved nicely since my initial note. There’s greater depth and intensity, and a warm herbal accompaniment to the ample fruit. I guess it just needed some extra time to unfurl.
