TN: 2019 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé (France, Provence, Bandol)

It fascinates me that this rose consistently performs in the same way and truly begins to ‘sing’ after a few years in bottle. Truly remarkable.

Cheers

I just rarely ever resist opening all of mine.

Opened 2020 (375ml) a week ago. It was excellent but not fully settled IMO. Will open next bottle next summer.

Opened up a bottle tonight to celebrate the vernal equinox. Wow how time has helped this wine. So much more depth. It’s much fun now. Just don’t serve to cold. Mine was in an extra cellar space at about 60 degrees. A smidge colder (55ish) was better, but no colder.

2nd bottle of 3. Thankfully, my last bottle is at offsite, and therefore not in danger of premature consumption.

2019 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé - France, Provence, Bandol (9/11/2023)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 1 – 1.5 hrs. –

NOSE: strawberry water; slightly savory; medium-light to medium expressiveness.

BODY: coppery salmon color; medium-light body.

TASTE: lightly red-fruited; a touch leafy, and a bit powdery; medium-low acidity; alc. not noticeable (13.5%). Overall, disappointing for this bottling, but there’s always the possibility it simply needed more air, or perhaps just more cellar time.

That’s how I thought about the 2019 when it first came out, but for me it has evolved in a positive way. Apparently not for you.

Yep. Honestly, I had forgotten I’d already had a bottle the previous year — probably would have taken some lessons from that first experience, and this thread, had I bothered to look into it before opening this year’s bottle. Oh well … live and learn (or not, in my case :stuck_out_tongue: ).

thanks for data points on these. No 19s, but I have a few 18s. From about 16 months ago:

2018 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose

Grabs your nose with crazy barnyard-and-herbs infused grapefruit. It’s totally wild. The grapefruit and sort-of-funk continue and are joined by savoury and an almost meat-driven taste. Utterly unique…I’m morbidly fascinated?

Wish my '19s showed like that. I’ve always enjoyed the extra guts Tempier tends to show, above and beyond that of most other roses.
