2011 Ridge Geyserville- USA, California, Sonoma County (6/20/2013)
As Zins go, this is outstanding. I’m drinking this way too young, but couldn’t wait and had to try one before my magnum arrives. The nose on this is fragrant and complex, lots of deep dark fruit, and strong tannins on the backend. Too young to drink now, but this is one to purchase and lay down because it’s as good or better than wines 3-4 times its price. Ridge, you’ve done it again. Strongly recommend, cellar 2-10 years. Got some based on a review in the Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine which, I don’t remember the prose, but they found it to be a bravura performance. Haven’t had the pleasure yet; thanks for the TN.
Anyone have thoughts on the Three Valleys bottling? I was in Whole Foods a little bit ago and went to see if they had Geyserville, but the only had the Three Valleys for $25. Didn’t pick it up.
Here are my notes from the 2010 Three Valleys a few months back:

Drank too young, but excellent nonetheless. This wine had just the right combination of full body and smoothness, without being overblown.
If memory serves me correctly, I think the Geyserville is a tad better, but both are great choices.
Re: The '11 Three Valleys, I didn’t like it so much. Not horrible, just seemed pretty simple. Would much rather pay the extra for Geyserville/ Lytton Springs.
However there are those that swear by Three Valleys QPR so maybe it’s worth trying.
I joined the Ridge zin club even though they are fairly available around here I get a discount with the club and I like that they just come and I don’t have to worry about missing a vintage
