Thoughts about Jura Wines

What’s a fair price for Ganevat Domaine wines nowadays? I bit the bullet and bought a few 2019s (Chalasses, Grands Teppes, Varrons, Billat) at around 100€. I gave up on sourcing Mon Pere.

That’s about right in France (inc VAT) (if slightly high maybe) if untied. If tied with negoce usually a little bit less.

Different markets will differ though!

NIce.

Agree with Russell.
Was offered at 70€ a bottle this year but I had declared personal bankruptcy a week earlier due to my yearly Labet extravaganza… And yeah VdMP? Never been offered one and that’s despite getting offered a little of everything here and there.

My favorite bread discovery of the past five years is the honey, almond and hazelnuts loaf from Le Fournil de Mon Père in Talloires. Many restaurant serve it on the table there

I opened a 2015 Bardette (new release/seven year élevage) last night, pretty high octane.
Will try again today and hopefully it has settled down.

Thanks for the read Patrick! Let me know how it behaves. I see some love hate comments on these cuvées. Maybe they’re built for 10 years later?

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen. 70€ sounds like a great price! I can’t afford Labet so Ganevat will have to do.

Labet is under half the price - ex cellars - which is only of academic interest probably.

We have lunch at Cafe de la Place, immediately opposite. I will buy some. Thank you.

Tangent, but if you’re dragging kids… mine loved Black Pearl for pizza.

Thank you, although we don’t have kids with us, we are group of old friends who have been skiing together for over 50 years and we certainly behave like kids.

I was going to mention this, the Labet wines at cellar door pricing are incredibly fair.

I am tempted to post the price list.

ive seen labet pricing all over the place but mostly higher than ganevat. i find it interesting that thatcher has generally better prices on almost everything but higher for labet.

Love many of them (so long as it doesn’t say Vin Jaune on the label) but still have sticker shock at what prices have gotten to. Of course I could say the same for many regions

I opened a lovely and fairly priced F Puffeney trousseau at PDH last week. I also like their poulsard

This was my last purchase from a shop in France where I have no allocations. Thats the best prices I’ve found. But within Europe it is not too hard to source a few bottles each year close to these prices.

Labet is getting harder and harder to find at decent prices.

That’s surprising!

Having picked up 6 similar bottles at that same shop, I genuinely feel it is an incredible bargain to get these wines at that price (from that vintage as well). I’m not sure I think Labet is better than Ganevat from what I’ve had.

Funny, I feel exactly the opposite! Would love to get such prices for Ganevat domaine whites. I have bought some Labet 2020s at retail and all were sub-70€.

One French online shop just posted new releases of Ganevat, reasonably priced. Go for it guys!
