I’m jumping at every opportunity. I’m practicing my humor to be funny when I grow up .
I get it
And for the champagne what would be the producers that you recommend?
I personally love Aurelien Lurquin,Cedric Bouchard and Thomas Perseval this three are my favorite.
Fine wines albeit the first two are now pricey on the market and tougher to find.
Checkout the Champagne thread for great notes on various champagnes.
I sell some champagnes so I’m also a little self-conscious when recommending things we sell. But I’ll DM you some lesser known producers I like a lot (along with my standard disclaimer ).
Thanks, Phil. Awesome info. We’re staying in Talloires as we did last year, so we’ll probably only hit Annecy for a day or two, but you’ve given us great options to consider. Thanks again
Life is good sitting on the patio at Jean Sulpice.
i would take many jura chardos (and even a few savagnin) over most 1er cru burgs these days. the unicorn sensation is a bit funny tho. ganevat wines seem surpressed (although certainly elevated) in price compared to the very trendy names. plenty of cuvees can be had for less than even labet. perhaps the new ownership debacle had some impact? in regards to murmures, miroirs, etc i just do not understand the appeal outside of the label/rarity. i think there are far better wines being made even on the bottom end of the food chain. i have really been digging les granges paquenesses…
I think the “big” négoce business hurts Ganevat a bit.
That said, I agree, the J-F whites age incredibly well and are super consistent.
I mean it seems to me that Ganevat domaine whites has been stuck at the same price since 2020 to now. 85€ on average, while only VdMP and a few more obscure cuvees have continued their rise.
I fear this year’s harvest or lack of will send Labet up there too.
Murmures Savagnin is big! but certainly not something I’d pay auction prices for, or buy 18 random bottles to receive.
It’s a little dated, but I’ve enjoyed Wink Lorich’s book “Jura Wine.” Picked it up as part of a kickstarter pack.
they certainly feel like pretty fair value relative to a lot of other names. probably my favorite ganevat savagnin is the sous la roche (sourced from the champs bernard vineyard). it is quite a bit cheaper than the marnes bleues cuvee and somehow feels both exotic yet a lot more mineral (could be some savagnin rose mixed in there). the 2014 is an absolute mind bender!
The 2014 Marnes Bleues is out of this world…
I don’t
Ganevat is the producer I own most Jura wines from. I mostly focus on the domaine wines. Not only are they great, they are certainly also some of the most stable and consistent wines in Jura (the whites), when it comes to aging, which is a big plus in my book.
On top of that I can actually buy bottles at fair’ish prices without all sorts of ridiculous allocation rules (here in Europe that is)
This book + @salilb and Michael Lewis (can’t seem to tag him), helped cut my teeth into Jura with a ton of aged Overnoy-Houillon that are so fvckn awesome.
The allocation rules are just absurd, even i buy only domaine and sell only domaine
Will be having lunch in Talloires next week on our way to Courchevel. Enjoy your trip.
With a blanket?
