The $120 or whatever it was from whwc was sold out in a flash. We would have all bought it if we could. And I recall later reading that whwc claims they lost money on it as they couldn’t secure it at the price they expected.
Had the 06 out of magnum at a friend’s house on Friday (along with…a lot of other wine) and it was quite good.
Is that an english or american quite good?

Ha! I did spend a few years living in the UK, but my citizenship is very American 
I had dinner with a number of WBs on Thursday and we had the 2004 Comtes blind (someone who took notes might write something up for that one) and while it was a touch more reductive than I might have expected at this stage, it was very good as well and a very appropriate showing.
I must take exception with Greg. The 04 Comtes was flat out beautiful. Though I agree that was appropriate.

It definitely got better throughout the night as the reduction somewhat faded (I kept a bit in a glass).
Had the 06 recently. Very good wine and enjoyed it. I wouldnt call it “great” though.
The Comtes was one of many wines that has been underpriced relative to its peers (see Ridge thread). There was so much hype built into the 2008 vintage, and Comtes in particular, it gave them the opportunity to reprice the brand. To nobody’s surprise, it blew through the opening price, and I have a feeling that Taittinger will now be priced in the middle range of tete de cuvées. For those with a little time, there are still some inexpensive back vintages worth scooping up.
Some place in MA still has 06 cdc for 120; no shipping though.
2004 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
Last night, BYO to the Oyster Bar Restaurant on Chuckanut Drive.
These keep betting better. It’s the coy, classy older sibling to the wanton 2006, and as attractive but more soft spoken than older sister 2002. Nice combination of citrus and orchard fruit, brioche with the spectacular Comtes mouthfeel. I really like this vintage of Comtes. I would date 2002 and 2006, but marry 2004.

It’s funny how quickly you responded. As I was posting, I was recalling your opinion about Krug’s 2004 and '04s in general. I was gleefully anticipating disagreement or daggers, not concurrence!

I like 04 comtes, salon and Clos de mesnil. the others not so much, Cristal and Dom are only ok. I dislike the Krug as I’ve said. I guess maybe I like the chards more.
A neighbour kindly served us the 07 taittinger comtes this evening. Alluring biscuit/toasty nose. Palate was quite tight but opened quickly with some swirling. Very enjoyable but it did need some time and plenty of swirling in the glass.
Made a cursory search, but didn’t see anything on the 2014.Has anyone tried it by chance? This a new release? Sorry for the silly question.
Yes, a new release. I’ll be trying it for,the first time at La Fete in a few weeks

When I first signed up for the La fete grand tasting it listed the 2014 Comtes. It now shows the 2013. Disappointing as I know how the 2013 tastes

Revisiting to see if anyone has had the ‘14 yet
Yes. I had it this past Wednesday. We bought it off the list at The Grill for $525. Very tight for the first hour or so but then it opened beautifully. It’s a bit leaner than the 2012 and not as big as the 2013. I would be a buyer and probably drink earlier than the 2013.
