yeah the bourbon boom is officially over. I am seeing BT products everywhere now. I have heard that BT has A LOT more stock that they could release but are worried about flooding the market and ruining the last 6 years of brand desirability they have built

I’ve been watching the bourbon hunters flock to Colorado in the last week. Apparently newest Buffalo Trace testing grounds and basically every store has Weller right now.
A great sign of things to come but I always wonder why they just don’t spread it round a little bit more.

Curious why the ‘Full Proof” doesn’t seem to get any love.

I think a lot has been price discrepancy in the past. The secondary on Full proof has been more because of rarity, but it doesn’t really justify it with only 7 more proof. They water back to 114 to match what it when in the cask at, which I never really understood?
The main difference is the chill filtering of the 107. While non chill store pick 107 are sought after for rarity some people really like the balance and sweet spot regular 107 plays in. Sweeter brighter profile compared to FP.

I quite like it, but it always gets a bad rap because of low proof…just curiosity.
Colorado. They supposedly just had their biggest Buffalo Trace drop ever. It all came in apparently. Lots of early week deliveries were trying to capitalize on secondary but it seems like there was so much that changed fast (although some of those prices in Dan’s picks look just a little marked up)

No. I like the Elmer, and I like that it’s 90 proof, so approachable to drink. Some of the cask strength bourbons can be well above 120, so then I need to cut it, and I don’t like figuring out how much.

Ok, makes sense I was interpreting that because Weller cut themselves to 114 it was unfavorable.

Had a bit of a frustrating morning. Started off 4500 deep in the waiting room due to the randomized placement.

The explanation of the huge CO releases I Heard today was that the BT distributor is in the process of being sold. they just released everything in the warehouse when usually they would trickle it out and maybe tie it to other sales ect. Stock up! (I know you already did)

It has been years since I opened one of these, and I am very happy to have done it again! this was one of Diageo’s terrible marketing moves, “orphan barrels” no one knew where the juice came from, and the age, suggested it could have been Stitzel-Weller, so there was lots of buzz around these when they hit in 2014. This along with Old Blowhard were the initial releases in the Orphan Barrel Series and imo still the best of them.
Actually distilled at New Bernheim back in 1994, aged at Stitzel-Weller. 20 year, 90.2 proof. 86% corn, 8% Malted Barley, 6% Rye.
Old Blowhard is an oak bomb, which some would hate, and the price tag was high for Bourbon at $150 back in 2014. Barterhouse was on the higher end for bourbon back then at $80.
Notes:
Werther’s original, charred oak, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, cloves, licorice, cocoa powder, orange peel, a touch of black pepper and eucalyptus. Despite 4 spices mentioned, the rich mouthfeel, and the slight oxidation from over a decade in the bottle makes this lush and more sweet than spicy.
If you can find these for sub $500 all in, these are very much worth it imo. I had only 1 left in my stash and since opening this one (pic is a few weeks back), I have bought 2 more. It is incredible how much flavor they were able to put into a 90 proof bottling back then. Was it the oak? Entry proof? It isn’t the age in the bottle in this case. I have had plenty of these back when it was released, and it was just a bit more bright and crisp back then. Still packed more flavor than most things at 110.
