The Best $50 Bottle of Red Burgundy

I resemble that remark Sean - I’m not that old - yet :cowboy_hat_face:

Those are cooking wines :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It might have been mentioned before? But the 2021 Domaine Didier Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages Rouge is pretty damn good IMHO for under $50. Bought the 22 but have not tried yet.

Faiveley Mercurey Clos des Myglands, Fornerol CdNV, and Dureuil Janthial are all top of the list but I’d also throw out Mallard’s Ladoix 1er cru Les Joyeuses as well. A very serious wine for around $55.

Dauvissat Irancy!

55€ here. Fits the $50 thread, time argument aside.

Didn’t know a Dauvissat made one!

Now I have to find it and try it.

Thank you.

this is a great one, and their Hautes is easily the best red burg in the $35 range that Ive tried

“The Best $50 Bottle of Red Burgundy”, thinking about this is pretty depressing!

No kidding. I’ll be a Debbie downer on this thread and say with few exceptions will I buy burgundy in this price range. Single vineyard Oregon Pinot usually out performs “value” burgundy—at least in the price range—very reliably. Of course, there are always exceptions and that is what this thread is about. And it does seem strange to say out loud that I generally only buy burgundy at $75-90+ but that’s where I’m at these days.

Previously mentioned Berthaut-Gerbet is a big exception to that—I buy her wines up and down the line.

Nice thread, folks. Some wines unknown to me.

Love
Some rustic Irancy, had no clue Dauvissat made one. Love their Chablis.

It’s a personal thing, but I could never do a Myglands

I personally love the Thibault Liger-Belair Moulin-a-Vent bottlings (Beauj’y Gamay I know :p) - they are spectacular values really and all should be way under $50/per. Champ de Cour, La Roche, Les Perrelles, Les Rouchaux, VV, and Vignes Centenaires (only in mags I think?) are all different and fantastic. I’ve never tasted with Thibault and hope to someday.

Just great, I was comfortably winning an auction for a couple of bottles of the 10…well until you posted this :rage:

What can I say? I’m a market maker! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

In my own cellar - I would say Dumont Bourgogne rouge (2022) - it drinking absolutely great. Also Montille Bourgogne Rouge is really nice - have 2020 I just purchased in a sale for 20 euro. Great value, also at “normal” rate around 26 euro.
