Tom … if I’m not mistaken, Roumier also makes his Bourgogne from the Bon Baton vineyard. It’s on the “wrong” side of RN74 at the Chambolle border.
The Dugat-Py bourgogne rouge was around $50 a few years back. Can’t find it anywhere near $50 these days. Terrific wine but can be a bruiser in warmer vintages.
The DJ Mercurey evolved damned near perfectly over 3 hours. I saved a drop for today. Could you imagine if Vincent Dureuil Janthial made wine in the CdN?
Question about that - since it is adjacent to Chambolle, are the wines from there “Chambolle-like” or no?
Yes!
I was hoping that would be the case. I think I might have to grab some village-level CM and explore a bit as that wine really hit a high note for me.
On this board? That’s totally normal.
There is tremendous variability in styles of Chambolle makers. Not all are lightly hued, elegant and red fruited.
If you can find post-2009 Hudelot Baillet, they fit that profile, and are much less pricey than, say, Mugnier.
If you feel like spending, comparing Mugnier and Roumier is always fun.
Enjoy!
PYCM Bourgogne Blanc when it was $25.
Have gotten Fourrier’s Bourgogne rouge on sale under $50 more than once. Hudelot-Noellat’s as well. Big fan.
Tried Camille Thiriets wines earlier this year and found a bottling for $45. Can’t remember exactly which one but was pleasantly surprised.
Yeah it’s like 100 now, but also has never been red so don’t think it ever qualified
Really like Lumpp. In the $70s now.
The Pierre Guillemot 1er Serpentieres was my all time favorite around $50. This too is now in the $70s.
I’m a big fan of the Faiveley, Rion and Bouvier already mentioned. I’ll add Douhairet-Porcheret’s village Monthelies.
Bah; didn’t see the “red” qualification!
It is a really good wine!
Any lovers of Pierre Brisset’s Bourgogne rouge?
wadana is usually way more than 50 and needs a lot of time.
All of the village Dujac wines (CM, Gevrey, MSD, Vosne)- when they were $50/per - I’d buy cases and cases of them - not $50/per anymore :(. Still try and buy a fair amount each year though! The 1993s are still going strong - a testament to their quality vintage after vintage.
I gotta say it doesn’t get more WB than a Burgundy at/under $50 thread where more than half the posts are waxing poetic about wines that used to be $50.
