Because Zachys.
And if there is something at a good price, you’ll order it and they’ll just not send it to you, and if you ask, they’ll shrug and say “oh we didn’t actually have that.”

Not to discount your experience but I’ve probably purchased 1,000 bottles from zachys over the last 5 years without any issues or delays, and mostly at prices lower than I can find elsewhere.
Astor is doing 20% all reds tomorrow (2/5). Prices tend to be higher but worth looking, they’re a great store.
and today’s german/austrian sale at astor has 2023 falkenstein gisela #8 down to $48…says ‘one per customer’ but ive found you can buy in separate orders and they never cancel.
picked up some haart jj for ~$23ish…which i find to be a great daily drinker in the summer.
Good call. In terms of % off retail, the Von Hovel Scharzhofberger Spatlese is also one of the best deals of the bunch.
I will NEVER purchase from Zachys again. After their joke of a shipping partner managed to break an entire case of literally irreplaceable old CA wine…they took weeks and weeks to get me my refund even though i paid for insurance. I had to email and call every other day until they finally sent my refund…albeit to the wrong account ![]()
Literally a horric experience. Truly as bad as it could have possibly been.
Lucky you. I have had literally the opposite experience. Truly the worst retailer/ auction house ive ever dealt with. And ive worked with quite a few.
One time, I ordered three bottles of a Chablis from Zachys. I received one bottle. There was no explanation. I called, and they, completely unapologetically, said “Oh, there was just one left.”
Then I noted that they still charged me the original shipping fee which was based on shipping three bottles. The guy, again unapologetically, said “okay, we will credit you the difference next time you order.”
Of course, I would never have ordered one bottle of Chablis to be shipped from NY to CA, even at the one bottle shipping price, but they gave zero F***s about it.
Yep! Sounds about right!!
Not that I actually could know, but I wonder if being a big customer of theirs, you just get a complete different experience than someone who just orders online.
The last two times I ordered wines from a sale of theirs, I got only part of what I ordered (1/3 one time, 2/4 the other). I wonder if maybe bigger customers of theirs say they want the wine, and they just non-fulfill the online order of some regular guy to fill it.
Purely speculation on my part. But you saying you get great service makes me wonder if there are two levels of how they treat customers?
I buy from Zachys infrequently but have never had an issue with my order being canceled or not getting what I ordered. The prices are just usually high especially with high shipping costs and tax.
Yeah that sucks. I’ve never used their shipping service since I live in NY—sounds like that’s why I’ve been spared any headaches.

In fact, I had some products heat damaged which they promptly replaced with no questions asked. I’ve actually had great service from them.

Two things. One, thats awesome…but night /day from my experience. And two…you realize you just completely jinxed yourself ![]()

That’s a good price.
2019 DRC Grands Echezeaux at $1999. Someone (with a bigger wine budget than me) should grab that.
They have more than one, just one per customer. I grabbed one plus the 19 RSV. Fabulous pricing for a wonderful vintage.
Really good pricing; would buy more if I didn’t have a ton of the 19s already.
Was a fairly loyal Zachy’s buyer until the most recent winter sale. Snagged some Cedric Bouchard VV at a fantastic price. Almost a week later I get an email that it was never in stock and listed by mistake and their replacement offer was other stuff easily picked up off the website. I cancelled all orders I had with them and asked for full refunds which they did, but it took weeks and frequent follow up.
The bottles magically found their way back to the website at 50% higher markup than when I ordered, so buyer beware with that company.
