Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

‘08 750s aren’t exactly easy to find at a reasonable price these days.

Got the last 6.

Nope, that’s why we stocked up a few years ago.

the krug was a great deal, although I got a bunch at similar prices from NYWW without the crazy shipping costs last year, although had to pick up in person. NYWW is a wild place, like floor to ceiling wine going up 30 ft with cats roaming around haha

I can’t speak to NYWW but I’m all in favor of the messiest, ugliest wine shops possible if it means getting the best prices. Usually the nicer a shop looks, the higher the prices are. Give me a warehouse with cats roaming around and boxes piled high any day.

I’d pay extra for the cats

I got 3 of the Krug and was pleasantly surprised that ground shipping to DC was $16.61. NY to DC ground is functionally overnight anyway, or at most usually two days. I’d have to double check but I recall my prior Zachy’s shipping quotes being much more.

The big upcharge for me was the DC wine sales tax (10.25% :soap:), but that’s not Zachy’s fault.

Went for the Krug and saw it was all gone. I would have said thanks @Rohit_B for the heads up, but can now thank @Guillermo_M for saving me from the purchase I knew I shouldn’t make.

I shouldn’t have made it either! I certainly didn’t need 3. But I was about to fall asleep when I saw @T0ny_Dr13r’s reply to @Rohit_B.

As I was double checking on the Billecart, I even noticed that @William_Kelley’s big 2021 Burg ratings article had come out. That should have helped stop me. But sleepiness and FOMO are not a good combo. No more late night WB for me.

You have to thank @Andrew_K who bought the last 6 though.

It was like $17 for a six pack. Can’t beat that these days. The sales tax on the other hand…

I think their shipping isn’t bad if you don’t need a 3rd party shipper, otherwise it’s like $60 for a 6 pack to be shipped one state away.

Yeah, tax hurts but the Krug was still a good deal even with that.

2015 Chetillons for $119 now, 6 left…

Edit: at Zachy’s

Dayum. Gone, needless to say.

Not a surprise, never expected to seeing pricing like that on Chetillons these days

Looking back at this sale, some really good prices on cheaper stuff:

Dhondt-Grellet Premier Temps for $37
Chartogn-Taillet St. Anne for $38
Paul Bara 2012 MIllesime for $60…

That is a seriously good price on the Orfevres. I wonder how much the empty bottle is worth?

I completely missed this sale. I received an email yesterday from Zachy’s PCS about 3 heavily discounted Champagnes that I don’t want, but no mention of an almost across the board sale on Champagne, many of which I would have been interested in. I need to visit this thread more often.

Yeah it was strange, didn’t get any emails and didn’t show up on the site front page.
