Spring Mountain Sale of Elivette wines

Thank you, Laree. Just went in for a few more of the 13s.

Where did you find the 13 Elivette still available on LB? Sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find it.

I too had to open one of my 6 2013s after all the comments here.

I found it very pleasant. Sure it seems a little tight and restrained. But even with a couple hours I felt it opened slightly. Enough to make me not concerned on the 5 I hold and also enough to make me think about buying more. (Probably would have if the 2000s hasn’t popped up).

Reading some of these comments you’d think it was the next Meomi. lol

I assume we’ll see another vintage (or 3) pop up on LB on Cyber Monday as well…

Not Meiomi lol. I find the 2013 pleasant and worth the LB $30, but if i had paid full winery retail, I would be peetty annoyed.

That’s fair!

I just find it crazy how comments on here have almost started leaning towards these not being worth the LB prices. And that is just insane!

Michael, how do you find these older offers from Last Bottle? As of right now, I can only see the current offer, which is the Etude Chardonnay https://www.lastbottlewines.com/

You can email them and ask, they’ll send a list of what vintages they have available.

It looks like there are two websites. One has the same offer as the app https://www.lastbottlewines.com/

The other has had the 2013 for the past week. But it also had other offers, so it does change. https://wines.lastbottlewines.com/

Not sure what’s the deal with the two websites but I also noticed that the business name on my credit card changed from ā€œLast Bottleā€ to ā€œNew Last Bottleā€ about 2 months ago.

I opened the '00 tonight from 375. Some very slight bricking, with a subdued nose. Definitely lighter in body than other vintages and the fruit is completely stripped. With air, it comes across almost Italian in flavor, with more minerality, acid, plenty of oak and tannin. Way past peak for my palate, but not bad.

Thank you, Mikko. I emailed a them a week ago, but no response so far. I get it that it is Thanksgiving week, but probably not their preferred communication method at other times either.

Thank you, Moritz. A helpful clarification. Need to keep that in mind. However, with the additions of 2000 and 2013, I probably have all the Elivette I’ll ever need.

I’ve ordered via email. It works, but with a delay.

First Bottle has the ā€˜08 and ā€˜09 in mags:

Was there a lot of sediment?

There was plenty of tartrate on the cork, but absolutely no sediment in the wine, which is unusual because every other vintage had at least a little bit.

So probably in a pretty good spot from 750?

If you’re looking for any fruit or tertiary notes, I don’t have faith in this at all. It’s just dry and earthy, which is not necessarily a bad thing. If you’re looking for the delicious Elivette richness, I don’t think you’ll find it here.

With the Elivette sale over, I wanted to clarify why this even happened:
Spring Mountain Vineyard (SMV) in most years since the 1980s had 2 main reds, ā€œEstate Cabernetā€ and a ā€œReserveā€. The reserve is mostly Cabernet but leans more towards a Bordeaux blend (cab franc, merlot added).
ā€œElivetteā€ replaced the reserve when J. Safra bought the property in 1992. Where did Elivette come from? - Safra’s parents, Eli and Yvette – combining parts of their first names.

Safra had to give up the property 3 years ago, and the current ownership is under a private equity company called MGG. Many positives have occurred. They hired the best vineyard management company Bettinelli Vineyards in the valley to bring back the vineyards. They hired the best wine consultants Atelier Melka group to make sure the future of the wines is being taking care of.
Now this year, the winery has decided to walk away from the brand of ā€œElivetteā€, selling the named wines at a huge discount, mostly to insiders. Then any remanding they put in the hands of a local distributor DBG, who also owns Last Bottle.
This means that the winery has all of the wines, excluding the Elivette. Pre-Elivette, there’s a ā€œreserveā€, and post-Elivette there’s a wine called ā€œResurrectionā€, in addition to Estate Cabernet.

SMV still pours new and old wines at the estate daily. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW just have the New Estate Cabernet 97 points and many of the older wines 96 points. Spring Mountain Vineyard | The Wine Palate

I’ve had 17,
18,19 many times now.
these are classically styled wines straight down the middle by modern standards imo. Plenty of fruit and no where near lean but then not plush either. No super silk mouthfeel like you’d get from something like Schrader ect. Also not a tannic bomb, the underlying heft is there to feel.
Structure is there with all of these, I find them enjoyable now because why not for $30? That said I’d think more than 10yr+ (so 20+ beyond vintage) would be optimal if that’s the goal.
