So, I bought a wine today...

with no labels of any kind. As soon as I saw this baby with its wax capsule and caked on cellar dust, I just had to buy it. When held up to the light, one can tell it’s a red wine of sorts. Any ideas as to what I just purchased?

Looks like you keep your car about as clean as your bathroom…

Ill say Mid eighties-mid level Bdx, but how will we ever know???.

Take a pic of it in front of something bright white so we can see the color of the wine. You know, like your toilet…oh, wait…

What does the stamp on the wax capsule say?

Is there a signet imprint on top of the cork?

That’s pretty much what I was thinking. It’ll be fun to see if the cork can give up any of its secrets when I open it later this week.

Unfortunately, it’s just a blob. It appears as though it may have resembled a grape cluster at one point in time.

they charged $29.99 for that!? basements struck back!

Man, I wish this was a basement find. This was actually an above ground cellar with temp and humidity controls.

Hey, even if you don’t open it today scrap off the wax and see if you can read the cork thru the glass.

Good idea. I’ll give it a go and report my findings.

Looks familiar. Cardinale?

OMG, is that the floor of your passenger seat . . . where you place that cute girl from Bern’s?!

Disgraceful! Take the $29.99 and get the POS cleaned, my man!!!

Radicchio.

In case you were trying to remember what was missing in your salad during dinner.

You bought a completely unknown bottle of wine for $30? There must have been some context to make you think it was a good wine – explain the context.

I guess the only way you’ll ever know is to the extent the cork says a producer and maybe vintage on the cork. More likely, it will just be a producer, and you won’t know what the wine or vintage was.

Talk about blind tasting . . .

I highly doubt that it’s Bordeaux…definitely not from the 80’s. All the bottles were the standard Bdx blt…no tapering. Can’t ever recall something pre t2k with wax…

It’s not a Dunn either…blt wouldn’t be tapered…

Looking at your other pick, I see some other similar looking btls with wax tops in the glass cabinet. Probably one of those…

Are there any markings on the bottle, like on the bottom which are molded into the glass? How many seams on the bottle, 1, 2, 4, 5?

You purchased freedom from prejudice and bias. Enjoy [cheers.gif]

Absolutely!
