So, I bought a wine today...

Ha, thanks Tim, that’s exactly why I bought it, and hey, there’s always the outside chance that it’s a gem of a wine.

How the hell will you know how long to Audouze the damn thing?

…and vinegar? [wow.gif]

Need a coravin?

I’m wondering if it might be an English-bottled Port. Many of the English bottlings were released unlabeled, especially from smaller wine merchants and were sealed with wax.

Was wondering the same thing - note the white paint.

I called Mark about the wine and mentioned the white paint as well. I’m having him send me some better images of the bottle and capsule.

Mark - did you buy that at Liquor Barn? Wouldn’t they have some idea what it is?

  1. How did they know how much to charge for it?

  2. What wines were near this one on the shelf (hopefully you noticed)?

  3. Will there ever be a Mark B thread that doesn’t instantly spring to life?

Mark - if you’re looking for Mystery Wines, there is a (infamous) retailer here in Seattle that will gladly take your $$.

That bottle shape would be exceedingly rare for Port. I’ve seen odd bottles of Port in odd bottles (Champagne, Burg and BDX styled) but all of those were pre WW2 bottlings when getting bottles was sometimes hard. And even then that was rare. That bottle doesn’t look that old. But who knows…

Wow, nice sleuthing, man. [worship.gif]

What gave it away? The sales receipt or the wine cellar?

Phone # on receipt?

Oh. Duh.

This is why many WBers don’t respect Mark. Only an inexperienced fool would buy wine that was stored in a barn.

Flora Springs?

In the Midwest you have two choices. Barns or basements

Most hilarious post in a long time.

You gotta stick to the three b’s.

Barns. Basements. Bathrooms.
