I will try it this week
I find them too greasy, with a shake too its almost unpleasant.
There are 12 branches is the UAE…
Yeah, I don’t get the Shake Shack craze. It’s very similar to Steak 'n Shake IMO but for some reason people go crazy for them. I can also eat at Steak 'n Shake (which is a full service/sit down place) for less than Shake Shack.
Smash Burger is similar and has opened 1/2 mile away.
The Shake Shack IPO was insane. I think back of the napkin calculation was something like $30m/location.
shake shack and steak and shake are very dissimilar in my opinion.
If it’s anything like steak n shake, then I won’t be impressed.
I’d be very hard pressed to tell the difference. So was the NY Times: http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/dinersjournal/2012/02/21/seven-burgers-go-up-against-shake-shacks/
Not a fan of the burgers and the fries are downright embarrassing. shakes are quite good however. No way I’d wait in line.
The reason I have yet to try Shake Shack…even after 11 years in NY.
I was way off on this – not sure where I got that number.
It got up to about $8m/location. Still quite a bit considering their gross was just above $100m last year (so less than $2m/location).
I think the burgers are very good (not great), don’t like the fries, I like the shakes but my favorite thing there is the Shackago Dog (or however it’s spelled).
The fries are frozen, “crinkle cut”. When they opened a second place in Philadelphia a couple of years ago, they started with fresh cut fries…but…I read they converted to frozen.
To me the only real thing that distinguishes any of the upscale hamburger chains is the fries. And…frozen fries are a real negative in 2015, as so many places do them fresh…and…fresh tastes so much better, IMO.
Shakes with burgers have always grossed me out…since I was a kid. I realize that it is a classic '50s combo…but…not for me. Not sure why.
Still like 5 Guys as well as any…of them.
It’s strange, but I’m even more compelled to try Shake Shack after hearing all this discontentment. I want to see if the winos have better taste (usually) than the masses.
Then again, I love Chipotle. I don’t think my local wine buddies can agree with me on that.
Funny I had heard of the place because of the queues, there are a dozen here, and I’ve never seen one more than 1/3 full.
but they still have lines out the door? Maybe…it’s part of their marketing?
No lines here, not that I have seen.
Does Abu Dhabi have a culture that waits around for hours just to brag on Facebook about getting a hamburger after 2 hours?
Probably not; they’re very undeveloped, after all.
Well it’s mostly Americans eating there…
Kind of true, it’s always 90% western expats, of which there are 50k Americans, and five times as many Brits.
