Secret Naugles menu at Del Taco

For anyone who remembers Naugles (a taco & burger chain in southern California, bought out by Del Taco in the 80’s), there are still Naugles menu items you can still order at Del Taco (according to the link above):
The Bun Taco
Naugles Egg and Bean Burrito
Macho Bacon & Egg Burrito
Taco Salad Cup
Cheese Burrito
Combo Cup
Bean & Cheese Cup

Apparently, all of the cash registers at Del Taco have a button for the “Bun Taco” although it is not on the menu, it’s even on remote handsets used for when the drive-thru lines get long.

Another tidbit…Jeff Naugle now owns and operates “BT’s Buns & Torts” in Visalia, Ca… which is essentially a Naugles, except they lost the rights to rename it Naugles.

Good to know. We used to always stop at the Naugles off the 91 on the way to Palm Springs. We’d get the combo burrito and then the race was on to get to the condo before … ehhh well you know.

I think the original Del Taco in Barstow still has the bun taco actually on the menu. I got one there last year.

Sounds great, even though I never knew Naugles (was that a So Cal thing)?

Why was I thinking that Del Taco was bought out by Taco Bell about a decade back?

I think Naugles was a SoCal thing and I thought Del and Bell were still separate although I think there was a connection in the beginning, along with Wienersnitchel.

Taco Bell did buy Pup n Taco … and I have missed their slushes ever since.

I remember distinctly eating at Pup N Taco. The one at Whittier and Norwalk Blvd (which is now a Taco Bell).

I also remember Naugles but am having a hard time recalling eating at one…hmmm…

Crazy. Thanks for the memories Veronica. I distinctly remember meeting behind the Naugles on Brookhurst in Fountain Valley after our high school parties were broken up. I also remember it becoming a Del Taco which it still is.

Now who remembers the Taco de Carlos on Warner? That was the Carl’s Jr foray into ‘Mexican’ fast food.

Recently stopped at the Del Taco in Barsto. No idea that there was a secret menu or even knew to look for a bun taco. I just got three softs and moved on.

Did you go to the original … on Main I think? I know a few Hackbarths (the founders) still work there. I used to work with a Hackbarth.

They also still put tomatoes on their tacos at the original.

I loved Naugles! Every time I order a Macho Meat Burrito I think back to my high school dayz when we would hang out in their parking lot to get the 411 on all the parties in the area. Oh those were good times!

Crazy, I actually thought this thread would only get a few hits and less comments. Now I know what type of foodies visit berserkers.

Now we just need to get Taco Bell to bring back the Pup n Taco menu.
