I will be in downtown Seattle and free for dinner on October 8, attending a conference starting on the 9th. I’d love to meet up with some locals for a bit of dinner and wine. @Kris_Patten has decamped to Boise, but since I owe him fantasy baseball wine (and because Seattle is still part of his sales territory), he’s working on arranging to be in town as well but he’s probably 50/50 at best for now.
@PeterH is available and may even host, so we may need to cap it at his capacity.
Please reply below if you’re interested and available and we’ll go from there!
Still not sure if I’ll be in town on 10/8, but will follow up if I can join.
Peter’s house is a great venue. I’ve generally found Seattle restaurants underwhelming for wine events due to the shitty BYOB limits around town. YMMV.
That was my big question- in the past deals were negotiated with a few of them- especially on tuesday (or other non weekend) nights.
Nonetheless I have heard legend of Peter’s hosting and if welcome I am generally a gracious guest (barring an unfortunate sabering fail- I hope thats all) and would be honored to attend and happy to help with any aspect- cooking, cleaning, shopping or whatever is needed (other than sabering)
Always happy to have a theme, but the first pick I always vote for is a mix where we have a bubbly, a dessert wine, and a white or two in addition to the reds (themed or otherwise) that typically predominate at these dinners.
I’m generally a pretty AFWE palate but was going to bring a 2009 SQN syrah since Kris is a fan, I can still bring that but if this is an AFWE group I can bring something else. The accessible part of my cellar is a bit depleted at the moment, but I could bring a 2010 Chidaine Habert for a white or a 375 of 2002 Eiswein, or a 2000 Fonseca port or an Italian red (Brunello or other Tuscany most likely). Those seem to be my best bets at the moment. I also have a 2010 JM Stephan Cote Rotie standing up which I’ve been intending to open soon and haven’t yet. Great reviews on release but some reports of bottle variation and some problematic so we’re rolling the dice if I bring that one, but it could be great.
I’ve got plenty of interesting white wines, various Champagne, and lots of dessert wines. I’ve never had a SQN and would love to try one. I could add a Cayuse or Rasa for comparison.
As I said, my palate is mostly AFWE but even so I’ve never tried a Cayuse and thus would welcome that side-by-side, but if we end up with half a dozen wines in that style and no AFWE wines, that would be a bit of overkill IMO.
I have a lot of Northern Rhone, Southern Rhone, Oregon Pinot and Chard, Champagne, Piedmont. I also have a bit of Spain (Lopez), Tuscany, Germany, other French regions.
