For cult wines, I actually don’t think they’re that expensive. I know quite a few other wineries nowhere near the same rep that charges much more. In fact, half of Napa, to be precise. And a few in Paso as well.

For folks on wave 2 - what wines were offered? I am here sitting on wave 3 on 7/20 hoping there are some crumbs left! =)

Wave two offerings:
2021 G2 Vineyard ($135), 2021 Heart Stone Vineyard ($135), 2021 Paderewski Vineyard ($135), 2021 4hearts Vineyard ($135), 2020 Hexe ($159), and 2020 Rocket Block ($159).

Still hanging out on the waitlist over here, 3-5 yrs?

Its was almost exactly 5 years for me. Got on last year.

Looks like only the following wines left remaining for tomorrows 3rd wave:

2021 G2 Vineyard ($135), 2021 Heart Stone Vineyard ($135), and 2020 Hexe ($159).

I still have Pad, RB and mags available for purchase on mine so there may be some of those available for wishlists

I opened a bottle of 2020 James Berry earlier this year and it was incredibly underwhelming. Moderate fruit intensity, little complexity, and a rather short finish. Really disappointed to pay $132 after 5 years on the waiting list.

Obviously the wine was really young and it will develop but I won’t be purchasing again at that price point. Better to back fill older vintages at lower than current release prices. Scored a 2006 Booker Vineyard Syrah for about $80 a few years back and that was awesome.

2020 JB is pretty early. I try and give them 6 years at least from vintage.

I don’t disagree with what you said but I think its best to buy some back vintages (if you hadn’t already) to make sure you will like the wines after waiting so long on the list.

This is concerning. In such a young wine you’d expect a higher fruit intensity.

Fruit can easily be capped by tannins, acidity and frankly just being shut down.

I’m a huge Saxum fan and long time buyer- but I’ve never enjoyed Saxum wines early. The James Berry is my fave bottle and wait at least 7 yrs on them. It’s a more refined wine than most of their others, imo. Early tasting (immediately on release) of a James Berry is all tannin, oak and a numb, unresolved fruit-i-ness.
All that said, the Jeb reviews mentioned earlier in this thread give me minor pause just because they seem different from his other Saxum reviews.
FWIW- I’ve found I prefer Saxum’s lighter vintages, so bought the 2020’s without worrying.

The 14, 15 & 17 would be good JBV’s to try right now.
