Since many retail-related posts are complaints about customer service, I thought I would provide some balance with a positive note. Had an online order problem with Saratoga Wine, which was primarily user error on my side. Townsend responded that evening to my email and fixed my order, 14 hrs from start to finish. Stuff happens regularly so taking care of customers like this makes it easy to spend money there, even if not the absolutely lowest price (although they were pretty close).
Nope, sorry, that’s Putnam Wine you’re thinking of. Right in the center of downtown Saratoga Springs.
Saratoga Wine is in a strip mall in a small town south of Saratoga. It’s sandwiched between a hair dresser and a fitness center. The selection is good and the pricing is competitive, but if you visited you’d never refer to the store as lovely.
So noted. I do like the style and charm of Putnam. It’s one of the few places I’ll impulse buy. Last visit they had Paumanok, so it was a no brainer on a couple of whites.
I figured this question didn’t warrant a new thread: does anyone have experience ordering “long-term pre-arrival” wines from Saratoga? The website says they have access to some Burgundy I was interested in, but I’ve never ordered from them before and don’t know how reliable their pre-arrival orders are. I gather many folks like this store but I don’t know if their good experiences extend to the pre-arrival stuff. Can I order with confidence?
They delivered a pre-arrival for me this week from N Rhone. This was my first pre-arrival. I have had good experiences with them on many other orders of wine in stock
Headed up to Gore for the long weekend to ski and hang with friends. Plan on making a pit stop in Saratoga for the amazing coffee at Uncommon Grounds as well as the wonderful pastries at Mrs. London’s. Will have to stop at Saratoga Wine as well. I’ve never been there despite visiting Saratoga dozens of times.
Jay, when was the last time you visited? I’ve never been to Saratoga Wine Exchange, but I’ve been in downtown Saratoga a lot over the past ten years. I’m going to guess at least a dozen times per year for the last ten years. I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of Putnam Market.
I live in Saratoga, Jay. Saratoga Wine hasn’t been located in downtown Saratoga - or anywhere in Saratoga Springs, for that matter -for a decade or more. They’re in a strip mall in small town called Round Lake, a 15-20 minute drive south of here. Great place to shop online, but the store itself isn’t anything special anymore.
Putnam Wine and Putnam Market are right in the center of downtown Saratoga, on Broadway. Both are relatively small but have a nice selection of items.
