Eldon and everyone else…I am so sorry, now I can’t make it either. We are now moving into our new home this weekend and I am going to be unpacking all weekend. I was kind of hoping that the contingencies on the sale would be held until next week, but they weren’t so we are free to move into our home this weekend… Sorry for the last minute cancellation….
Just so I won’t have to BBQ in the rain, I’ve got a 6+ lb. pork loin with my special olive oil and herbs rub roasting in the oven. There will be plenty to share with other carnivores!
It might be slightly embarrassing bringing the top 3 wines, but I can handle it!
I just hope the traffic down to the OC isn’t awful.
I’m bringing a nice Spatlese for Clara and Francine to sip on as well. The others are bagged and ready to take on all comers! WA 97, WA 96 & WS 94 - gauntlet thrown down!
Thank you Eldon for hosting another great gathering at OPH! Nice to see familiar faces and to meet some new people, too. Good luck in volleyball today. Yikes!
Great party Eldon! It was so well organized, the food was yummy and the company was fabulous, but I can’t say it was all that nice getting up close and personal with your garage floor. My ankle is a little grumpy this morning after my trip and fall.
This tasting was quite the eye opener for me. . . .I learned that I am not a huge fan of domestic or Australian Syrah/Shiraz. I think I’m gonna have to talk dirt here and say I prefer French Syrah. In fact, the wine I most enjoyed was the Bordeaux in the garage!
So many people dissed off ALL the wine, I however, found most of them to be well worth drinking. Couple of stinkers - vast majority hard to differentiate amongst themselves. That was the weird thing.
#1 - Saxum “Broken Stones” with 5 first place votes #2 - Jalama “La Presa” with 4 first place votes #3 - Mollydooker Carnival of Love with 4 first place votes
The honorable mention {meaning receiving some votes}:
Delisio with 2 first place votes and a slew of seconds.
Dead Arm with 1 first and a lot of seconds and thirds
South Africa’s Goat Roti (f-you Paul) with no firsts but 6 seconds
Kynsi with a first and 3 seconds
Worst wine - Stone Heaven - 4 votes
Close on the list with 3 votes: Rudius, Harlan Ridge, and Langdon
We did not compile the results of the Country guesses, but I can tell at a glance, it was not going to be pretty. I bet random chance would have been better odds.
Thanks everyone for coming!! Volleyball this morning was “fun”.
Not sure this will work, but here are the total - total results. Note: cutting and pasting did NOT work, lots of spaces inserted so hope this works. Sorry but we are missing the year and many specific vineyard designations. Anyone wants to add those, let me know and I will edit the post. Note there are 2 bottles of 2004 Mitolo GAM that could be added together but there seemed to be a big difference in the two bottles. Scoring was your top three, with #1 = 3 pts; #2 = 2pts; #3 = 1 pt. Bottle Bags 1-15 are from the Foosball table, 101-120 are from the Bar and Garage.

Well crap - despite extensive formatting, none of it happened. All my spacing was deleted.
So, you will have to fight through the #'s if you care that much. Sorry. Heck - I am just glad I remember being there.
Interesting that my #1 was the Two Hands Angels Share, which actually IS my favorite AU Shiraz, and most frequently grabbed bottle off the rack. My #2 was the South African ringer Goat Roti, my #3 was the 2004 Mitolo GAM, and my worst wine of the night was a dead heat for either of the two Heaven bottles, closely followed by the French ringer, 2006 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage.
Thanks for all the work. Were was CHARLIE F? ( and his list & notes ) Now we can all tell what we liked and didn’t… I certainly thought I liked some things which did not show well to me at all.
