Heading over to Walla Walla for Cayuse weekend and can use some restaurant recommendations …
Already know about Saffron.
Can someone hook me up with a second restaurant for a Friday night meal?

During our last trip, it was a big drop off from Saffron to the other restaurants we tried in WW. In fact, I can’t actually remember the other places we went to.
If you’re willing to drive a few miles, head on up to Waitsburg for dinner at the Whoopemup Cafe. It’s a fun little diversion. And have a couple drinks at the bar across the street…

+1 on all comments here. The Jimgerman bar has good charcuteirie and nibbles as well (the bar referred to here). When it Waitsburg, arrange a tasting at Couvillion for sub $30 Cabernet as good as anything you taste in Washington.
T Maccarones is passable after Saffron.
Saffron is first choice. I thought Brasserie four was pretty good for dinner, and they have a nice world-wide wine selection–you just wander over to the wine storage and pick your bottles–a decent broad selection of France, Spain, Italy, etc. Patit Creek in Dayton is a long standing fixture that is very good, but a 20-30 min drive. I would second the Waitsburg ideas, but just remember that it’s a considerable dark night-time drive to Waitsburg or dayton, not recomended after a lot of wine unles you have a driver. Key to make reservations ahead of time for such weekends.
When we were there in Aug/Sept for our honeymoon, we ate at Saffron, T-Maccarones, and Iceburg. I thought Saffron was nice enough, but maybe a bit overpriced. T-Macs was better food, for slightly better pricing (a dollar or few cheaper). We had a late lunch at Iceburg (old school burger drive-in) which held us over through dinner.
Iceburg is always a stop when we go to W2, and I would choose T-Macs over Saffron.
I have always enjoyed meals at Whitehouse Crawford.
Love The Crawford - great winelist prices as well -
T Maccarone’s and Whitehouse-Crawford are our two favorite dinner spots in W2. T Mac’s has always had great service too.
Also will be @ Cayuse weekend, hitting Waitsburg Friday night.
Also consider take-out mexican from the Worm-Ranch or the Taco truck on Isaacs past whitman college (can’t remember the name at the moment.) You bump into winemakers regularly at both places.
Trey Busch posts a lot on facebook about a truck called Andre’s Kitchen. The pics look great, especially the burgers. Gotta find it next time I’m there.
Patit Creek used to be very good, but I have not been there since I drove 80 minutes to dine there with my mother and they refused to let us sit at the counter.
Back before that, they had some interesting wine selections. They had some older (1982?) Baux de Provence that they could not sell (wasn’t Cab, so no go), so they put it on special. What a steal that was…
Creektown Cafe has always been solid.Saffron is great for lunch, but not so much for dinner.
We tried Creektown Cafe when last in W2 June 09, we won’t go back.
I would highly rec T Mac’s (noisy but great service and food) and The Fat Duck Inn (B&B) for dinner and The Ice Burg for a burger. Won’t ever go back to Saffron. Decent food but horrible service. Our table of six were actually given a time limit for dinner last time there!
Darren–that’s odd. They’ve always been very nice to us when we’ve come–sent us a thank you note for being so much fun once, remember us each time we make a reservation. If they get over-whelmed have sent us a free appetizer to tide us over. You weren’t obnoxious, or ate a four hour dinner last time you were there or something?
Dave Butner is correct in the AK’s Kitchen is a must stop for you on your Walla Walla foodie itenerary. It is a mobile food truck but serves the best burger in the NW, as well as specials like Poutine, Lamb meatballs, Chicken Curry, Cuban’s, Fried Chicken, etc. Because he is mobile, you should check his FB page under Andrae’s Kitchen Facebook - log in or sign up" onclick=“window.open(this.href);return false; or http://www.andraeskitchen.com” onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Cayuse weekend he will be conveniently parked at my new winery location on JB George Rd. next door to Saviah Cellars and Waters Winery. Look forward to seeing everyone there!
One stop shopping, nice!
That will be awesome, because the one thing missing out in that area is a place to stop for some good eats between tastings.
2nd this as Andrae is a great guy, just lucked out running into at a wine bar while were out there last fall while he was talking to Mr. Funk of Saviah. After talking to both of them for a while they convinced us to stop by and it was probably the best meal we had, including Saffron which was a little disappointing this time around.
