I have used the gift certificates before, and they work just fine. You do have to spend more than the certificate is worth (typically $35 for a $25 gift certificate, and it does not include alcohol, of course) but that means a nice cheap meal - two people for $10 at a decent restaurant? Sign me up!
I read those links, you should take them down. Those people are idiots.
One complains that no certificates came in the mail (you print them online) and the other complains about the terms, which they did not wish to follow.
Looks like the website is taking some hits today. I found a coupon for a very good sushi place in town, but alas when I try to purchase, I get an error that the page is not found.
Depends on the place. Many do not have that exclusion.
Of couse, that raises the question of why any place does have the exclusion. The markup on alcohol is huge. Why do they care if you use the certificate to drink instead of order food. There is probably more profit in it for them if you use the $$ on drinks instead of more food.
PS. I have been using the certificates for about 6 months and have never had a problem with them. I got the email yesterday and bought $470 worth for just under $20.
You are correct on both counts, Bruce. Some do allow it, and most (or all) should, as they stand to more easily make up for the discount in the huge profit margins in the alcohol, plus, there is a greater chance of riding up the bill.
Thank you for posting. I’m perusing the list right now. They have Campagnola listed – I’ve never been, but I know a group of West L.A.’ers frequent that joint for OL’s.
I’ve used them quite a few times, with zero problems. A very nice restaurant here in NJ, Fascino…accepted it with no issue at all. Yes, only one per month, per restaurant. Big deal. I love it for what it is. I bought $200 worth of coupons…8 bucks.
I told my wife, a professor at a university here, to tell her students. Seems like a great thing to them, given some of the selections that they would probably be happy to go to.
