Restaurant.com Promo Codes

Ah … cool. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I wanted to warn all of you who purchased these coupons to check through your bank/credit card statement for every month since you purchased.

I got a strange charge for $19.95 on 10/13 from something called SHOPESSPLUS. After some research, I found out that this “company” is somehow affiliated with restaurant.com and when you purchase from restaurant.com, you automatically get signed up to some SHOPESSPLUS membership. Whey you google SHOPESSPLUS, a website comes up that talks about membership this and membership that, but no specifics on what this membership is for. There is a link that takes you to a login page that asks for a code that appears on the Credit Card statement along with…wait for it…your credit card number, or an email address. Ummmm…NO!

So then there is an 877 number on my statement as well which I attempted to call, but surprise surprise, the number is invalid. I found this website in which others were affected by this for a website called vistaprint.com, and it looks like a couple of the posters purchased from restaurant.com.

Anyway. I hope nobody else was affected by this, but I wanted to give you all a heads up.

Here is a better link from Tripadvisor.com

Thanks for the heads up Jeremy, I am going to check my statement right now…

Jeremy,

It seems that more and more when you buy things online that a “freebie” offer comes up at the end, and it isn’t really free. I almost fell for the clickthrough on restaurant.com the first time I used it, but I now assume on that all these offers on are for an add on service which I do not want. Thus, I just click on the “no thanks” button - and have not had any problems.

I hear ya Bruce. My wife purchased from them, I was too skeptical to buy into it. I wouldn’t click through myself, but perhaps she wasn’t paying attention and clicked on some thing with a “continue” button without realizing that it was an additional charge.

Good thing is that she used a CC that I was planning to cancel soon anyway because the interest rate is ballooning for some stupid reason (I have been an on-time paying customer for like 8 years). So even if the CC company does not reverse the charge (I disputed it), I still have an out.

Jeremy,

Thanks for connecting the dots. I actually got the same charge on my statement early this month. Didn’t make the connection to Restaurant.com. Called the bank and disputed the charge. Will check another CC for it.

Thanks again.

because they can is the reason you are looking for. headbang [swearing.gif]

Thank you for the heads up…no charge on my AMEX, but I will also check my wife’s credit cards as well.

Still a happy customer of restaurant.com

Went to F.I.S.H two weeks ago…$25 certificate cost me $1.

Yeah, until the new law takes effect in February. We’re all going to see a lot new fees and charges with our credit cards until then. [swearing.gif]
