Red Burgundy sleepers

I recently picked up a couple Tortochot '15 Bourgogne fine cuvee to see how they are; we’ll see!

1999 Chateau de Chamirey, Mercurey. Still drinking well. $16 retail in 2002.

If you had to choose one of Ramonet Chassagne CSJ vs La Boudriottes 2013 to drink now which would you choose?

+1 on the Blain Gagnard, just pre ordered a case of their Village Rouge and 6 each of their Volnays the last week, tried one of the 2010 Village last week (note on CT), still needs 4 to 6 years to open up. Great value here in New Zealand

I just preordered 6 Tortochot Chambertin a few days ago, due off the boat here in New Zealand in a couple of months, no risk no reward

Champy Tallepieds

Anyone have any advice on this?

I don’t have experience with either of these in '13, but generally I give the nod to the Boudriottes. The wines are young enough that they should both show well with enough air. But that could easily mean 24+ hours.

Michael, I haven’t had the La Boudriottes, but the CSJ is very good. If you can find the Clos de la Boudriotte, it is a fair step up from the CSJ. It stole the show a recent dinner where a number of 2013 red Burgundies were poured. Lovely wine.

Had a Hudelot-Noellat 2014 Bourgogne Rouge tonight. Really wonderful wine that cost only $25. Fabulous value.

I never get offered this wine, so I don’t know about it, but it seems that H-N’s Bourgogne and village Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanee regularly approach the next level in the Burgundy hierarchy. The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny recently was singin’.

I have not had any of his 2013s, but his 2012, 2014 and 2015 village wines are outstanding. Hudelot-Noellat has long been an excellent producer, but IMHO their wines are up a level or two since Charles Van Canneyt took over.

I’ve had three of the four listed and definitely agree.

I had forgotten about this one: Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru Champeaux. This is from a small parcel of vines, some of which are about 90 years-old. It is priced just a shade below the domaine’s grand cru Mazis-Chambertin for a reason. It is a complete wine in every way, filling the mouth with wild, brambly Gevrey fruit from beginning to end.

Great list

Great addition. I have not had this wine, but I like Harmand-Geoffroy and consider him to be an excellent under the radar producer.

Chateau de Chorey Beaune Teurons

Had Muzard Santenay 1er “Gravieres” 2014 last night and it was terrific. Second time with this wine, but this bottle got to breathe a little more and was a bit deeper. These wines are much better than I remember them a decade ago.

I can also second Voillot for under the radar, not cheap exactly and very particular, but solid values if you like the style.

Mugneret-Gibourg NSG 1er Les Chaignots
Thomas Morey Beaune 1er Greves
Bernard Moreau Chassagne Rouge VV
JJ Girard Savigny Les Beaune and Pernand Vergelesses (entire range)
Gerard Seguin (from village Fixin and Gevrey all the way to Gevrey 1er Lavaux St Jacques)

Not sure how any Mugneret-Gibourg wine can be a sleeper.
