No formal notes, but these notes are good. Similar style to the JC Ramonet wines.
Well I hope Noel uses diam at least.
Not really. I hear he might on certain cuvees, but it seems to be random.
We grabbed a '21 Bruno Colin Bourgogne Blanc at dinner at Fedora in NYC last night. (I firsgt ordered a Roagna Chard, with 10%neb–very intriguing–but the waiter found it to be corked.) This is my first time with this producer and I was very impressed, It punched well above its weight–not too much reduction, beautiful white fruits, good line of acidity, and some surprising complexity considering. I’d happily drink more.
Just had this and consistent notes - unbelievable particularly for the price and happy I have another 2022 and a couple of 2023s on the way.
Pierre Morey Meursault Les Terres Blanches 2020
First time with this bottling and it’s very good. All about apples, other orchard fruits, a little dough. Nice balance from the acidity. Lovely dry extract and chew. Saline finish.
Classically proportioned like all Pierre Morey wines. I usually stick with Tessons + Perrieres but this is a nice complement—more chalky/chewy and less hazelnut/ honey.
Love Lumpp’s reds but I’ve had a few of the whites and they always seemed on the precipice of premox.
I’ve been on a fantastic Burgundy trip at the beginning of march.
2024 seems to have turned out really well for whites.
We had a great program and visited Roulot, Lamy Caillat, Jean Marc Vincent, Joseph Colin, Pierre Morey, Simon Bize, Chantereves, Domaine de Lambrays, Guilbert Gillet, Domaine Marshall, Gerard Mugneret, Domaine de L´Arlot and Ghislaine Barthod / Boillot.
2025
We tasted the barrels at Gerard Mugneret (Pinot), showed good at this early stage. Too early obviously to say too much but it looked promising. For them it was a good year. My favourites were probably Suchots 1er and Aux Brûlées 1er both Vosne Romanee.
2024
Was pretty difficult and very intense for the producers we met, many had big losses (in some cases even up to 80%). The whites showed mostly fantastic though with a lot of tension, energy and great acidity. The reds had some mixed results but were very elegant in many cases.
All visits were great but my absolute 2024 highlights were:
All wines from Lamy Caillat (especially La Romanee and even more Caillerets) unfortunately nearly impossible to find. Knowing now the ex cellar price of Sebastiens gems of premiere crus (I won´t tell them) the secondary market prices people ask for are simply ridiculous.
Jean Marc Vincent fantastic wines, especially Auxey Duresses with vines planted in 1937, Gravieres 1er Cru and the Vignes Denses Cuvee from Santenay. Crazy value for money given the way he works in the vineyards. High density power ![]()
Roulot Tesson Clos de Mon Plaisir and the Premier Crus.
Chantereves spectacular Aligotés, great Morgeot 1er Cru and Corton Charlemagne GC. Interesting side note - nearly every producer talked about the rising importance of Aligoté.
Domaine de l´Arlot super elegant Pinot Noir with a good price / quality ratio for what the are.
2023
Seems overall to be a good vintage, warm and with good quantities. Where we tasted the 2023s they mostly showed pretty well.
Highlights from 2023:
Pierre Morey great Les Tessons and Perrieres 1er Cru.
Simon Bize Vergelesses 1er Cru and Savigny les Beaune, great price quality relation.
Domaine de Lambrays (Pinot) Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru and Clos de Lambrays GC
Jean Marc Vincent Beaurepair 1er Santenay of the whites and Passetemps 1er of the reds
At Le Soufflot in Meursault we had a 2023 Coche Dury Bourgogne and a baby Comtes Lafon Charmes 1er Cru 2023. Both showed well (Charmes too young obviously even with a lot of air in the caraffe but at these prices we could not resist :)) and gained significantly with air. The Armand Rousseau Les Cazetieres 2017 pinot we had after was amazing.
I recently also drank a Maranges La Fussiere 1er Cru 2023 from Bachelet Monnot and utterly enjoyed it - great price quality ratio.

2022
**
We did not taste 2022s at the producers we visited (except Simon Bize where they showed well) but from my understanding it was also a good vintage, warm but in many wines i found the tension and energy I love in wine. Only a few bottles showed some heat and broader aspects calling rather for food than for another glass.
Among the best 2022 I drank recently are Paul Pillot La Romanee 1er Cru (crazy good with some air), Paul Pillot Saint Aubin Pitangerets 1er Cru, Michel Bouzereau Genevrieres 1er Cru, Marc Colin Saint Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru and Pattes Loup Chablis Beauregard 1er Cru.
I will definitely try to pick up some bottles of 2024 whites when they will be released, I really enjoyed the fresh and rather cool style!
Cheers ![]()
About a month ago, I was lucky to attend a big tasting of Bouchard Montrachet & Chevalier Montrachet. 1996 showed really well, but I also liked 2001 and 2005 quite a bit…
BIG BOTTLES OF BOUCHARD MONTRACHET & CHEVALIER MONTRACHET - San Francisco (2/12/2026)
- 1995 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. Lovely and quite fresh nose with citrus, lemon, minerals, and red apple notes. Great acidity on the palate with mineral driven flavors and more lemon. Nice finish. Really interesting wine that still tastes surprisingly youthful. I didn't quite have the complexity of some of the other vintages, but very enjoyable nonetheless. (94 points) - 1995 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. A little more mature compared to the Bouchard Cabotte and quite a bit of intensity on the nose, notes of minerals, smoke, and apples. Good acidity on the palate with more orchard/apple fruit, stone fruit, minerals, and a bit of salinity. Similar to the Cabotte, this is a very good wine but perhaps not quite as deep as other vintages. (94 points)
- 1996 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. Beautiful nose with notes of citrus, minerals, a bit riper fruit, and peach. Great acidity on the palate with more citrus and stone fruit, good intensity, and nice depth. Long finish. This was a great showing! Very nice complexity and depth and still has a long life ahead. (95 points) - 1996 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. Lovely nose with notes of flowers, citrus, toast, and peach. The fruit profile started out quite tart but picked up weight and a bit of ripeness with air. Nice acidity on the palate with lemon, citrus, apple, and stone fruit flavors. Long finish that lingers. This was gorgeous! Perhaps just a little bit more complex and lifted than the regular Chevalier next to it. (96 points) - 1996 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. Richer nose than the two Bouchard bottles with more intensity but also high complexity, floral notes, citrus, and some nice lift. Good acidity on the palate with more citrus flavors, orchard fruit, minerals, and salinity. Long finish. Excellent wine that still shows quite young and a little influence of oak. This be even better in another decade (at least from this format). (96 points)
- 2000 Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
From 6L. Very rich on the nose with a bit of creamy/lactic character, cheese, apple, lemon, a strong floral component, and a bit of flint. Medium acidity on the palate with a bit fresher and tarter notes of apple, minerals, citrus, and more flint. Good finish. A good wine, but felt very big and imposing. Not my favorite of this flight. (93 points) - 2001 Bouchard Père et Fils Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
From 3L. Very nice nose with subtle notes of lemon, white flowers, and minerals. There is a lot of depth and intensity without a bunch of weight. Nice acidity on the palate with big but balanced flavors, more mineral notes, a bit of creaminess, apples, and lemon. Long finish. What a great experience! Good depth, nice complexity, and overall just a well balanced and perfectly mature Montrachet! (96 points) - 2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From 6L. Very nice nose with quite a bit of complexity and richness, although everything is in check with a good amount of dry extract, citrus, and minerals notes. Nice acidity on the palate with fresh fruit notes, and quite a bit of weight and power, although it always felt balanced. Great finish. There is so much going on in this wine, it's rich yet delicious and never too much. (95 points)
2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières - a bottle opened three years ago was young and tight, but this showed beautifully. Very poised and pure. No rush but no need to wait.
Quite a trip - thanks for sharing!
Would it be a mistake to open a 2023 of the latter?
I did recently, give it a good decant and its roaring to go!
I’ve had almost universally good experience with 2019 Chablis (village and 1er cru,) and this is probably generalizable.
Also had a 2013 and a 2014 Corton Charlemagne recently that really sang, FWIW.
Thanks Kristoffer, for how long did you decant?
I absolutely loved the visit at Jean Marc Vincent, it really was among the best visits of the trip for me. Great people and it was enlightening to listen to Jean Marc explaining his approach in the vineyards. Highly forward-thinking and I’m tempted to call it best in class. Look at these beautiful vines, if i remember correctly this is from his Gravieres 1er Cru Pinot Noir.
Regarding your question I don’t think it would be a mistake to open one now. I enjoyed all the 23s we tasted even though they were coravined and did not get a massive amount of air at the tasting. They all showed potential obivously and one or two more years of rest definitely would not hurt before approaching. But if I were to open one now I’d let it breathe a bit and it should be good to go ![]()
If you go for it enjoy it and let us know your thoughts
Cheers!
Give or take 1 hour!
If I ever get around to visit burgundy, it is one vist I’d definitely hope to be able to get an appointment for, even more so after hearing your thoughts about it!
Will do, brought home a bottle from the storage last week.
Seems like a great trip indeed. How were the wines here? Still very distinctive or some increasing convergence?
I opened a 2015 Bachelet-Monnot St. Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly on Wed and drank over two days. Lemon curd, slate, a tiny touch of grass on the finish. Great acidity. Super nose on both days and less reduced on day two. Long finish. Exactly what I like in white burgundy. This was a great deal for $40 when I bought it in 2019. Wish I had more.
2023 Dom. Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Cuvée des Pierre
Alot going on here. Not your butter and hazelnut Meursault mind you, this is brimming with white fruit and some citrus notes. Very «detailed». Somehow I feel I need 20 years or so more experience with wine to appreciate this fully.
