Post-Maria's Supper

Tonight while watching various TiVo’d shows, we had a nice tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil, & EVOO salad. The tomatoes were very ripe, rich and low in acid; the buffalo mozz was a little soft and quiet; but it was still somewhat tasty with the Tuscan EVOO and fresh basil leaves. We also had a 1995 Badia á Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva - dark garnet color; rich earthy, spicy fresh and dried cherry nose and flavors; balanced mid-palate with fruit, acidity, & minimal tannins; and a medium-long spicy fruit finish. All-in-all an nice evening with TV after an enjoyable afternoon at Maria’s.

Dick,

Just a salad for dinner and no dessert? Maria’s must of been really good today…

Leah

We usually have just cheese, chocolate, or nothing after Maria’s. Yesterday we decided to have a caprese for a change.

If we have our main meal mid-day, we normally don’t have much in the evening.

Very nice… I always enjoy your posts…Cheers!!!

Late this afternoon we had iced tea with stuffed cucumbers & tuna filets with garlic in oil. Then while watching the end of the Tour de Suisse (via TiVo), we had a ripe Bosc pear with grappas - Marolo Grappa di Moscato, Banfi Grappa di Brumello, and Badia á Colitbuono wood-aged Grappa di Sangiovese.

Tonight after lunch at Maria’s, we had two cheeses - Drunken Goat & Raw-Milk Morbier with TJ’s Jumbo Raisin Medley and mixed nuts accompanied by a 2003 Graham’s Port (375ml). It all was a nice combination while watching (via TiVo) the Tour de Nez (cycling) first two stages - men’s, women’s, and hand-pedaled (handicapped). The we finished with a couple old episodes of Dr. Who. A nice evening with a cooling breeze.

Tonight after lunch at Maria’s, with Jeff Pfohl after he had delivered some Gourmet Delights goodies, we had a nice 1989 Ch. Raymond-Lafon Sauternes with four cheeses - St. Andre, Old Chatham Sheeps’ Milk Camembert, Affinois Goat Brie, and a Clarines Edel de Cleron, with two savory honeys, rosemary-lavender and truffle. The Sauternes was rich and not particulary sweet and was quite tasty with the cheeses with or without honey, we also had some Mesilla Valley pecans as well. All was enjoyed while watching Episode 2 - Clone Wars of Star Wars (via TiVo). Today was clear and warming after two days of coolness, clouds, and rain, but didn’t get too hot, a very nice day.

Last night after lunch at Maria’s and Wine Geeks @ Nostrani the day before, we just had TJ’s chocolate bars and another Susana Balbo Late-Harvest Malbec while watching ‘License to Kill’ (via TiVo). A nice evening after a couple big indulgences.

The sauternes was nice and still very very very young. Hardly any age at all, just enough to put things into balance with nothing really sticking out. Always great to hang out with you guys! [friends.gif]

This evening, while watching various TiVo’d shows, after lunch at Maria’s, we had cheeses - Edel de Cleron, Affinois Goat Brie, Bleu d"Auvergne, and a few other scraps, with the last of our Black Mission Figs, and a 1998 Ferrari-Carano ‘Eldorado Gold’, a late-harvest Semillion-Sauvignon Blanc from Dry Creek Valley - rich, flavorful, a bit shy in acidity; nice with the cheese and figs, but not in the class of Sauternes.

After lunch at Maria’s, last night while watching Nip 'n Tuck, Bones, & Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives (via TiVo), we had Good Wive’s pastries - Lobster Newburg Puffs, Crab Puffs, and Shrimo & Dill Puffs with a tasty 2002 Domaine Gerard Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Perrières - bright, spicy white fruits, good acidity. and a long spicy fruit finish. It was quite enjoyable with the pastries.

Tonight after oysters at the Railyard, we had a few cheeses - St André, a very ripe La Tur, Epoisse, and Affinois Goat Brie with Blueberry and Plum fruit pastes and Balsamic jelly. All was enjoyed with a 2001 Ravenswood Zinfandel Napa Valley - light berries in nose and flavors, adequate acidity, and a medium berry finish.

(I screwed up and put this in the post-Maria’s thread, we really had it last night after oysters at the Railyard.)

Tonight after our enjoyable lunch at Maria’s with a few new Margaritas, we decided to have some cheese and Sauternes, while watching TiVo’d shows. We had a young 2005 Chateau Rieussec with St André, Affinois Goat Brie, Goat Boucheron, and a couple other leftovers without labels, with pistachios, deluxe mixed nuts and TJ’s Jumbo Raisin Medley. All was quite good together.

We each had three scoops of Gelato, Chocolate, Tahitian Vanilla, & Hazelnut Chocolate, with two sauces - Creme Caramel and rich Dark Chocolate. Carollee had just water, while a had a snifter of Amaretto di Sarrono. It made an enjoyable evening, following our great lunch at Maria’s

Last night after lunch at Maria’s, we decided to have a Pink Lady apple with grappas. I had a glass of Poli Grappa di Moscato and two glasses of Badia a Coltibuono wood-aged Grappa di Sangiovese with my half of the crisp, flavorful apple. Carollee had two glasses of Banfi Grappa di Montalcino with her half apple. All was enjoyed while watching the interesting Iron Chef America Ice & Egg-Nog battle between Iron Chefs Morimoto and Flay.

Tonight’s light repast after a delightful lunch at Maria’s was a 1988 Raymond-Lafon Sauternes with three cheeses - Brie de Meaux, Old Chatham Sheep’s Milk Camambert, & Affinois Goat Brie. The Sauternes wasn’t very sweet, but very rich; and was very good with the cheeses, It made an enjoyable supper following our lovely lunch at Maria’s

Tonight’s dessert after Maria’s was three small scoops of Ciao Bella Gelato, Tahitian Vanilla, and the last of the Dark Chocolate and Chocolate hazelnut. I also had a small snifter of Rhum Barbancourt.

Tonight after our delightful lunch at Maria’s we had a bottle of 1983 Chateau Monteena Estate Zinfandel with three cheeses, Brie de Meaux, Old Chatham Sheeps’ Milk Camembert, and Affinois Goat Brie with raisins, nuts, and three fruit pastes - blueberry, apricot-almond, and pear-vanilla. Old Chatham Sheep’s Milk Camembert, Affinois Goat Milk Brie, Pistachios, & Pecans with a half-bottle of 2001 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes - good fill; cork barely colored; somewhat dark yellow gold in color; rich nose and flavors of nutty white and yellow fruits; mid-palate with some acidity, good fruit, and a little oxidation; and a long, rich fruit finish.
