Jeff Leve’s “travelogue” approach to the 2009 Bordeaux harvest:

Where are the ribald tales of loose women met at cafes?

Glad his travel plans maike it into wine talk.

Jeff always meets or exceeds my expectations! [wink.gif]

So, that is like what, ninety points?

edited…never mind.

i kinda liked it.

I have actually met Jeff in person at an offline and had a chance to talk to him. He actually is a pretty nice guy.

Howard,

I’ve heard this too.

Pity about his Internet persona though…

Best regards,
Alex R.

Parker is grooming him well…seeing harvest is the last step…

As I read Jeff hype up 2009, I am reminded of Robert Parker’s quote earlier this year…

****

“As most reasonable people know, it is absurd to try and judge the quality of a vintage before a single grape is harvested, or even before the chateaux have made their selections and final blends.”-Robert Parker, 30 April 2009

This must apply to everyone EXCEPT Parker and now, Jeff Leve.

A lot has changed in 5 months…Jeff is just another blobber now, in Parker’s eyes.

Heir presumptive I guess?

I like Jeff but to me this is growing tiresome already. It’s fun for him I am sure (for now anyway) but every year is almost like deja-vu all over again. Great vintage, the pricing bullshit, all the hype. Maybe I’m just getting old and tired…

I had the same experience with Jeff. I think he is a nice guy and he can be a lot of fun. The dinner I attended, which Jeff organized, was fun.

I would just be curious to see Parker call Leve out on his blobbing.

but I guess, as we all know, a nice double standard is in effect.

After all, pictures are allowed again, and we all needed to see who Jeff is hanging with in Bordeaux…again.

Jeff Leve, you’re our hero!

I remember that quote because he was directing it at me and my comment that a MAJOR insider was not as keen on the vintage with about 3 weeks to go. I was tempted to tell him who said it, as it would have been funny to watch him squirm, as the source was anything but someone he would consider “absurd.” But I decided against it. At any rate, now he thinks the vintage is all incredible, but somehow I just don’t buy it. How many vintages of the century are we supposto accept before calling bullshit on the whole thing? So far we have had 00, 03 (in parts), 05, 08 and now 09? [beatoff.gif]

What is “blobbing”?

Just to be a contrarian, I like Jeff’s posts most of the time. I’ve never met him. neener

In the same paragraph, Parker refererred to bloggers as blobbers. Therefore, the verb would be blobbing. [stirthepothal.gif]

Wow, tough crowd. His posts may be a little verbose, but I generally respect his palate. Plus, he seems to have a real interest in the actual making of the wine, the vineyards, cellars, the growers and winemakers. After all, he could have just shown up and tasted a bunch of stuff that importers put in front of him.

Great post, Udo, thanks!
