The Insignia showing well? I still have a few, so curious.
Yes Insigna was showing great. I have two more of the 07s and i think ill open in '27 and '30 - plenty of life left
seemed lightly corked, but still nice with a Flannery NY Strip. I thought about opening a Merlot, but didn’t want to upset @ToddFrench
2023 Piccetti Zinfandel Brut. We were hiking in Santa Cruz Mountains yesterday and we’re on Zinfandel trail, it took us straight to Pichetti. Had to stop for a tasting and enjoyed one with apps last night. Grown in Summer vineyard in Gilroy.
I had 1 5 to 6 years ago and it was flat. Have 3 more and plan on popping one soon. Hope my bottle shows as well as yours.
Had a few friends over for a lovely wine evening and they brought some amazing options. Several great bottles but this was WOTN by a long shot. One of the best bottles I’ve had in recent memory.
A day late but we opened the 1982 Lafite and paired it with Morgan Ranch Wagyu tri tip.
First of all, the tri tip was beyond awesome. This was a great BD XVI purchase. Thanks to @Carrie_Morgan and all at Morgan Ranch for a stellar tri tip, possibly the best we’ve ever had.
As for the wine, it was the sort of wine that made me take a walk in the cold after dinner to think over what I just had. I thought it had some elements of a great Loire red on top of its undeniable Bordeaux character — and at that moment it occurred to me that this might be @Robert.A.Jr ’s ur-wine: it’s hard to imagine a more direct, structured, intellectual, anti-jam wine. Utterly masculine in the sense that it is dead ahead in its attack — it’s linear in that sense, there is nothing unclear about it. It has trademark Lafite pencil lead in spades, and a weird mix of lime and red berries, as well as leather and roast beef. Subtle for all ts directness , I admired it more than loved it.
Sounds pretty awesome to me! Never had it. Have had the 83 and 85, which were damn lovely as well!
Well, you’re lucky! It might be heresy to suggest this but I had the 83 many years ago and comparing memory to immediate reality (not the most reliable) — I prefer the 1983! Never had the 85.
Serendipitously we had a wine dinner on Sat night. The Musignys were my contribution so I think they met the “open that bottle” requirement…
They did. I checked the picture twice and they were opened.
I think 1983 has turned out to be a surprise vintage 40 years later. I’ve had a handful this past year, LLC, Haut Brion, Beychevelle, Lalande, Gruard Larose. Have loved them all. @Marc_Frontario is a big fan as well!
@Robert.A.Jr I had the 1982 vs 1983 Chateau Margaux side by side and the 83 was the better bottle.
Love Quintessa. How was the 99 holding up?
2008 Laurent-Perrier Millésimé
Paired exquisitely with langoustine!
We love langoustine, infinitely better than lobster!
My experience as well with Ch Margaux fwiw.
decadent…and brilliant pairing, well done
one more vote for the 83 Margaux over the 82…poured the 82 for Mont and Judi Stern when they visited us and our daughters couldn’t get over watching Mont decant the wine. They were spellbound
I have questions, so many questions…
How did the Fourrier 10 vs. 11 Moines compare? It’s one of my favorite 1sts that he makes and it seems like he did well with 11, in spite of the tough vintage.
How was the 11 Faiveley Corton? I tapped the 12 last night and found it tasty, but perhaps on the downhill. Or was lacking in the acid backbone a wine needs for the long haul…
Musigny!? Surely this was a mistake and my formal invitation was lost in the mail.
How did Drouhin’s 99 compare to Mugnier’s 01?
