Open That Bottle Night is Sat Feb 22

Berserkers, what are you planning to open this Saturday night?

TBD, but it’s going to be a Champagne!

Going to a Markus Molitor dinner at Ilis so lots of Riesling!

Oh, thank you for posting this. I’ve been looking for a reason to crack a birth year wine. (My birthday is in January so Dry January has gotten in the way of late.)

One of the major reasons I will never do Dry January!

I do my dry breaks at other times.

2020 Ultramarine!

But in all seriousness, my wife is on antibiotics right now so we might open a '02 Nicolas-Francois next weekend.

Same here. We are not terribly religious (or, at least, not ostentatiously religious) but we do tend to follow the Catholic liturgical calendar — meaning we are dry for Advent and Lent. I also usually find no desire to have wine during the hottest part of the summer so often July becomes sorta dry some of the time. The timing makes a difference to us: going dry in Advent and avoiding “holiday”parties allows us to anticipate the joy of Christmas, for example. We don’t experience Christmas as the culmination of a season but the beginning of one. Lent is similar. Just works for us. Apologies for thread drift, will rectify with another post.

I guess I better start warming up for Under the Volcano April.

Kneel before Zod and drink!

I never draw the right allusion:
“Santiago/ Under the volcano/ floats like a cushion on the sea./ Yet I can never sleep here,/ Everything ponders with the night”

Maybe I am old and out of the loop…is there something notable about this Saturday night?

Open That Bottle Night (as OP noted in the title) is this Saturday. Then again, for most of us Berserkers, that could be any other night as well.

Funny, was just thinking about this. We are doing dinner with some close friends . I’m thinking 85 Lalande.

I had to look it up:

John, that helps a lot. I’ve been doing this wine thing for 3 decades and I had never heard of this event. Thanks for sharing that with me.

My bad, Frank. I figured you had had a brain fart.

Cheers

I tend to affix memories to a lot of things I open. I never thought of a day devoted to it. Cool idea.
