These hands are prized weapons. You must protect the assets. Plus I’m throwing around big iron after 50 and 60 mile rides, not playing pickle ball!
Todd speaks truth - for the second time, I broke a stem by deciding to load the dishwasher while I was already well into my cups (post-Xmas dinner). “Ah, I can get a couple more things in here…wait, what was that weird sound?” A Grassl Liberte pays the ultimate price for my carelessness
I also always wash the wine glasses the next day. However, I will give each a quick rinse with running water and gently run my finger and thumb around the lip of the glass(es) to lessen those particular stains to make the next-day washing easier. Haven’t broken one yet, with this approach.
This is exactly what I do. Although I have broken one over the last several years which isn’t too bad.
We have been able to break the stemware jinx by getting down to about 8 mismatched stems.
The key is: no matched stems = life no longer needs to create odd numbers of each.
I have two good mismatched stems. I use a measuring cup when I pour out portions. ![]()
Christmas Eve supper. Large bowl of salad being passed. First person to pass it lowers the bowl right onto a Fontaine Premier Universal. Shatters, 2015 Del Bosco Brunello splatters all over me.
Bought the six pack of these glasses at BD earlier this year. This meal was the first time I’d used them since a one glass test run upon receipt.
My impression has been that they’re pretty hardy glasses, though I admit I haven’t subjected them to a salad bowl test ![]()
It’s a lot safer to wash these in the dishwasher.
Down two Pinot glasses this week. My wife broke them on consecutive days.
I’ve heard a lot of people say that, but they are too tall to fit in the top rack of our dishwasher, and they tip over in the bottom rack. So handwashing it is.
You’re supposed to use the bottom rack; you don’t have any glassware holders in the bottom rack?
You can easily get dedicated glassware racks for dishwashers that aren’t expensive also.
I’ve never broken a glass in the bottom rack; in fact I exclusively use grassl or similarly thin glassware and have broken two in 8 years total, and that was from guests dropping them.
You’re supposed to use the bottom rack; you don’t have any glassware holders in the bottom rack?
Nope. They are all on the top rack.
That is genius. Ordering a set.
Tasting group was at our place for the BD Newbie audition. I usually use restaurant Riedels for these maniacs, but my brother and his wife showed up unexpectedly and I was short one glass. I gave bro my glass and reached for a GGG for me…

Had a wonderful 50 mile ride this morning with my buddies, moderate to hard tempo with some run ups, came home craving my morning protein smoothie that I always do after a ride, and then this happened…
Did you slam it against the counter or something?
Somehow it rolled off the counter, barely missing my bare feet!
