Official WTSO thread

I really like the Lange wines. Still family owned and run by good people. I haven’t had a ton of their single vineyards, but I’ve enjoyed every bottle I’ve had.

Thanks for the input. In for a few Lange single vineyard Pinots!

Prospice Wines (or at least one) are now hitting WTSO. This is a winery that that has participated in BD in the past, but is unfortunately now going out of business. I am hoping more of their wines hit WTSO as they have gotten good reviews here and I love WA State reds. The one currently up is sorta a second tier wine, I think.

There are quite a few Lange Pinots available. Which ones would you recommend? I have never tried one.

I only saw there Meravina blend but was legit hoping the same thing.

The Willamette Reserve is the wine I’ve had the most. It’s a whole valley blend, but includes some top vineyards. At $21.99 it’s a really nice value. I picked up the single vineyard Estate and am planning to grab some Freedom Hill before it’s gone. I have less experience with the single vineyards, but figure you can’t go wrong at the price.

Has anyone tried the Fidelitas Cabernet that is available right now? I generally love Washington State cabs so bought three. Seems like an excellent price, particularly with a $10 off $100 purchase promo.

if it’s anything like the Cadence cabs i got on BD 17 that sounds like a hell of a deal. The cooler mountain cabs seemed to really drink easily.

Oh they were also BD winery this year. Guess it’s BD day on WTSO?

Fidelitas makes excellent wine and this is a very good buy. I can recommend this wine as Last Bottle sold the 2019 vintage of this wine for $19 about a year ago. 2020 was a down vintage in WA just like in CA, but not as bad.

I tasted at Fidelitas in October 2024 and loved everything, even the whites!

I’m betting $138 (2 bottles w/free shipping) that it’s likely the 2022 Crown Point Cabernet Sauvignon (95 points from Dunnuck and Galloni), or possibly the CP Estate Selection (a blend that primarily cab that received 95+ from Galloni and 98+ from Dunnuck.

Either one seemed to tick all the clue-boxes from LBW, although LBW’s typically breathless description mentions the wine being a double 95-pointer. Hence…

The slightly tricky part was a mention of the involvement of a 100-point winemaker. CP’s very up-and-coming young winemaker is Frenchman Simon Faury, who has worked in the past for Mondavi and Harlan. But I don’t think he’s notched any 100-pointers YET, though his body of work since joining CP in 2019 is literally knocking on the door.

I thought the reference to a 100-point winemaker a little deceptive but nonetheless accurate. I thought (hope) that’s a reference to CP’s lead CONSULTING winemaker, Phillippe Melka, who has made several dozen “perfect” wines so far in his career.

It could be a nod too to Michel Rolland, who also consulted at CP until his death in March. Both of those guys are world-class winemakers who between them have a ton of 100-point wines to their credits.

I guess I’ll find out for sure in a couple weeks when my shipment travels cross-county from Napa to Miami. Kudos to LBW for resuming – now the hot summertime weather is here – using refrigerated trucks (at no extra charge to the buyer) to bring my purchases most of the way.

In my case, the refrigerated trucks hand off the shipment to FedEx at its West Coast (of Florida) hub in Palmetto, south of Tampa. From there it’s trucked (un-refrigerated) to Miami, which is a five-hour drive away. That’s why I always pony up for the $8 cold bricks, which in past years have held up pretty well - especially since the wine and icepack are being kept cold its cross country trip.

Anyway, good luck. Cheers

I think that you meant to post this on the Last Bottle thread, not WTSO. I assume you are talking about the Happy Canyon Mystery Cabernet from two days ago? If so, you must of missed that they had Jean Hoefliger listed on page two of the write up as the winemaker, taking all the guess work out of it.

What dutko said! Also crown point relevant happy canyon is available for 69.99 on vivino plus 10% off

That 2021 Stag’s Leap Soda Canyon looks interesting for the price…

I ordered three bottles of Stag’s Leap Chimiles Vineyard Cab. It’s simply outstanding for the price. The style I like - little to no oak/vanila, tannins grippy but well integrated, not very bold, lots of black fruit.

I ordered three as well but of the Soda Canyon and am looking forward to trying it.

I was surprised to notice if you put ‘Stag’ into the search function a bunch of these Stag’s Leap single vineyard bottles pop up with great pricing.

My wife said “Soda for 50 bucks? You are crazy”, so I passed.
