In general, the local Costco warehouse wine selections tend to be aligned with the socioeconomics of their surrounding area. So youâll have to find locations where the classy elite are. The Redwood City one is famed for its wine selection for example.
I really havenât seen any correlation. The Pentagon City store is in the middle of one of the richest spots in the US, as well as one of the USâ biggest wine markets. They get crap
All I know is the ones I went to in Oahu on the west coast, and Maui near the airport had pretty poor selections, and the ones in the Bay Area up and down the peninsula have pretty good stuff normally in stock, and sometimes some amazing stuff (like the 4 bottle vertical of Cheval from 00, 05, 10, and 15!)
Or it could be a crappy regional manager. I wouldnât be surprised if DC, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, etc. are all in the same Costco region and we just have a really crappy wine buyerâŚ
Hi Patrick -
Welcome to the board! There are different regions within the country for Costcoâs wine program, each with a separate buyer, and here in Florida, it SUCKS compared to what many on this board post from other areas. I stop in the Boca Costco a few times a month, and while sure I may find a decent rioja or chianti at a good price, I canât ever recall seeing any of the gems that people regularly post about in this thread. Sounds like our store is a step better than yours, but not worth a 3 hour drive.
I agree. Our Costco wine selection in âaffluentâ Nashville is horrible. About the only interesting wine Iâve ever seen is the current 08 Dom----for $179 plus 9.25 % tax.
Costcos in CO are a mixed lot primarily because of an archaic law that stated chain stores could only sell wine and hard liquor at one location meaning one King Soopers in all of CO could have a full liquor license, same for Costco. I donât know if that has changed now that the state has eased up on regulations for beer sales. I was at the Park Meadows Costco last week and they had '08 Dom for $139.
