How much was the Carillon?

$49 I think

I can’t read the label on the carillon.

2013 Francois Carillon Puligny Montrachet

Price not the best - was just shocked they even had it there!

What does it say above the vintage?
Thanks

Couldn’t resist and grabbed one tonight. Dry nose, not overpowering fruit but a hint of that ā€œyoung/cheapā€ jammyness you get in cheap US wines but much more subdued. Pretty one dimensional and NOT worth $20+…

Drove down there today, it took forever due to 18 Wheeler broken down on the 405, then Costco’s scanners couldn’t ID the bottles and it probably took an extra 20 minutes. But dammit, they had 7 bottles and I bought 6. Thanks Brigger.

That is too bad, but doesn’t surprise me. Pauillac is the Broadway & ParkPlace on the Bordeaux Monopoly board, so I don’t think there would be that much surplus grapes/must/vats floating around entitled to Pauillac AOC that weren’t already being slotted into some blend. Was there anything on the back label identifying who made the wine? On some of the other Kirkland AOC/DOC type of wines the negociant/producer is sometimes mentioned in tiny type.

I only recently joined Costco, and was pleasantly surprised (not blown away, just surprised) at some offerings locally, at least for everyday values. CUNE Reserva 2012 at $14 was a very good value.

My Costco has that Paulliac for $20, but they also have Sarget Gruaud Larose for $20 and some other good options at that price or lower, so I can’t imagine why I’d buy the Kirkland for the same price.

newhere

First posting…I was a long time Wine Commune guy back in the day and have not participated in any online wine forums since. I was searching out the Premier Cru disaster when I stumbled upon this forum again and have been lurking for the past year or so. I was finally stimulated to join by finding some Mags of 2015 Brewer Clifton Santa Rita Hills, both Pinot and Chard at my local Costco. It’s still too recent for any reviews and as I was scanning through WB for tasting notes I decided to join and see if there’s any feedback on these bottlings. So, here’s the deal;

Kona Costco
Brewer Clifton Santa Rita Hills
1.5 l Pinot ($69.95) and Chardonnay ($59.95)

I got 4 each, leaving 1 Chard and 4 Pinot behind.

Forgot to mention I also picked up this;
Louis Latour Volnay ā€˜En Chevret’ 2009
$46
Little concerned about provenance (sitting around the distributor watehouse) but perhaps Costco does direct buys now as well?

I would imagine the provenance would be solid–they are the biggest wine retailer in the country, right? Just a sense, though. I’ve never bought anything of any real value from them. Too, if anything tastes suspect you can always take it back and aren’t going to get any guff at customer service.

This is not true, at least in Chicago. I purchased some gin that was terrible and tried to return it with maybe a shot taken out of the bottle. They lied to my face (said it was illegal to return alcohol) and after I asked what law it violated they eventually got a manager. The whole process of a simple return was stretched out to an hour and they were a-holes most of that time.

(In retrospect it was not worth it at all, but once they started lying about the law I was committed to getting my money back)

YMMV

I stand corrected, then! I don’t have any direct experience doing this–was merely assuming.

I think you just got unlucky Corey, as I’ve seen this done many times while I’ve been waiting in line to return something. People with carts literally full of booze that they obviously didn’t drink from a party or something.

They weren’t opened bottles of booze…but they absolutely allow you to return alcohol in general here in AZ.
