Official Costco Thread

Teeter Totter:
Anyone tried the recent ones in Costco? it’s 11$ off at 35$, should be a good value from Benoit?
Tried their fait main Paso Robles, a true disaster.

If it’s no better than the Lanson I just spent $40 on, then “zero.”

Picked up x3 of the Taittinger!

Also in Apex, NC…

I absolutely picked up x2 of the PGCs and will probably go back for more… very tempted by the Chablis Fourchaume, but I went in for windshield wipers and left with five bottles of wine I wasn’t planning on.

My local has Lanson Black Label for $32. Grabbed three. Opening tomorrow for science.

If your palate aligns perfectly with mine, and you’re not okay with something boring, have your backup ready.

As I mentioned above, $40 is about bottom to get anything decent now where that was $30 say at the dawn of the pandemic. So I’d give the Taittinger a test spin. I haven’t had the basic bottling in a long time but that is certainly a quality big house.

Opened another Lanson tonight. Oaky style but again, for the price I’m happy. The $40 on this is a sharp markdown last time I checked Wine Searcher.

Not trying to be a jerk, although I have been called worse! You say oaky but because it’s $10 or $40 or a sharp markdown does that make in a better/more palatable wine? I see this all the time but I don’t agree ymmv.

I’m honestly not sure what you’re asking. I recommended it upthread and went back for more. It shows oak so if that’s not someone’s bag then they may not want to take advantage of the deal. Just trying to be honest. Wines can be what they are without all being entirely positive or everything negative. I like the oaky Lanson.

Interesting! I’ve been wading deeper into Champagne these past few months, but I’ve actually had this 2-3 times in the last year (and most likely from the same or similar release as friends had bought them at nearby Costcos as well, for $55).

I was never bowled over, but always really pleased by the balance of acidity, ripeness, and cépage. It never seemed “sweet,” and worked very nicely as an aperitif. My wife really enjoyed it, and that counts for a lot with how good her palate is.

That being said, I would still be happy to hear others thoughts on this bottling.

Cris, see my response to Brian, but I appreciate your input! I agree about $40 being the new $30, at least when it comes to Champagne.

About 10-12 Pichon-Baron left at Niles at that price.

It’s now at $499.97 :eyes:

That number needs to start with a 2 for me…

Same. One more week to see if it goes further…

Does anybody know if the Costco app accurately reflects price changes?

The app is the scan price. Sometimes the tags take longer to get updated, so if you ever have a lower price on the app vs. what you’re seeing on the shelf, it will scan for the app price.

Meaning the App is the most up to date pricing? Or are the wines just re-tagged when discounted and you gotta be there.

App is the most up to date.

Looks like they also marked down the 2021 Patrimony cab to $99.97. Was thinking about grabbing a bottle or two, but it’s Daou which gives me pause.

Well, it is 2021 (before they got bought), so might be worth a try at $100. My problem is that 2/3 of my meager 107-bottle collection is already younger California wines, so I’m looking to diversify going forward.
