Official Costco Thread

Saw a recent note on the board about the '21 Pontet Canet, and it was not a positive review. It was so bad it made it sound like the writer wouldn’t want that wine at any price. FYI.

For $50 I’d certainly be willing to draw my own conclusion.

Never the wrong answer.

It is NOT Suntory time

I don’t recall which vintage of this Marcelo Pelleritti I’ve tasted before, but it was very good. If I remember correctly, he has some connection to the Pomerol estate, Le Gay.

There is a hole in the wall Thai place near there - Sai Bai Thai - which is worth the visit if you have time and are tired of Costco hot dogs.

This is absolutely bonkers to me, and makes me wonder whether Suntory itself is living in some kind of fantasy land with its most aged stuff, or if Costco doesn’t realize the Japanese whisky boom has been over for at least 5 years. Like, you can get Yama 12 for $130 these days (still a good bit more than when it was written by name into the Shiso Malt Sour recipe in the PDT book, but way less than it was in the middle 10s). Or a really good 30yo single malt scotch for less than a tenth of the price of this bottle.

Dauzac for 19 bucks is a great value

There were a few left when I got back there today…I went ahead and took the last of them. The other Bordeaux closeouts were gone, but they still had some Testamatta and the Napa wines.

Tolaini Valdisanti 2020 is 11.97 at Fremont, CA location. I bought few. Tried one. Tasted terrible on the first day. Little better on the second day. Really good on the third. I guess I should open the next bottle ~3 years later. Costco location had about 20 bottles left as of today.

John would have tasted the same bottle ~3 years later.

Note for less-cultured Europeans: you can only call it Kirkland Cabernet Sauvignon if it comes from the Costco region of the United States. https://t.co/7CJBKUAzPJ
