Official Costco Thread

I have a friend who is still working through the TP he stashed at the start of the pandemic.

I mean, who doesn’t already have at least 10 bundles of Kirkland TP stacked in their garage? Fool me once…

Early March 2020 I went to costco thinking I need TP (actually needed paper towels) came home with the Costco TP brand and realized I already had PLENTY of TP and that gazillion pack still sits in our garage to this day.
So, I guess I’m ready for the the next shortage

Visited a smaller format location recently #1493

Generally slim pickings in this jurisdiction due to local laws, but the holiday packs have emerged

The KS CdR is from Patric Lesec, a broker/vigneron of some regard. K&L has a Buyers Own Brand that he assembles for them too.

A spectrum of German beers

A decent price for Faugeres, which like all the names in the proprietors’ portfolio has been attempting to go upmarket, and feature fancy embossed bottles. Curiously enough, I had the 1997 example the same night as this picture was taken. A friend poured it, although I had given it to them decades ago. (1997 is fading but still drinkable)

As I was walking in through the parking lot, I observed there were a lot of my kith & kin there, so I suppose I should not have been surprised to see the following two items…

93 points on the shelf talker. Interesting coincidence.

Nah - plenty of great CA Syrahs at a similar price. As most wineries will tell you, f-ing impossible to sell good syrah at a reasonable price. Best value wine varietal in CA, bar none.

I’ve not found a syrah from California anywhere near that price that I much cared for. Do you have any suggestions in the approximately $15(US) range that you prefer to Saint Cosme?

NJ only has 2 Costco stores that have liquor inside the stores. The rest that have liquor are attached concessions outside of the stores.

I went to Wayne, NJ (one of the two, the other is in Edison) , to have a detailed look and was hopeful based on this thread. A huge disappointment. Not a single BDX bottle available. The only ā€œpremiereā€ wine was Caymus at $75. 80% of the price points of non Kirkland brands were in the twenties.

This store does VOLUME. Kirkland Brands abound. I didn’t take note of the price, but someone was grabbing a case of the barolo.

I went there one day last year during the holiday season. I think the one day ring was more than the State of Utah does annually. People had second carts filled with handles of liquor, cases of beer and wine. Ok, maybe the ring wasn’t as high as Utah but the volume certainly was.

Drank the '19 Kirkland Brunello last night. Decanted 2 hours. My text to friend:

Medium body with fairly integrated tannins at this age. Dark cherry. Could age another 5-10 years, but for $20, you’d probably want to drink earlier. Could be a great weeknight drinker, provided you remember to decant in time.

Will be a repeat purchase for me. The '17 & '18 were not.

The KS CdR hasn’t arrived yet here (as of yesterday),
It’s my cooking wine which is also very drinkable.
Thanks for the heads up!

Decanting Kirkland wine?

What’s next, are you going to sous vide some Kirkland hot dogs?
