Official Costco Thread

Billings!

Good for a lot of reasons that the store is too far from the west coast. That thing would be gone in a hot minute from sfo, sea, or la.

Hope a very young and very patient person with good storage gets that big mouton. In OWC too!

Just in time to cancel my membership. LOL

Has anyone tried the 2019 Kirkland Brunello yet? (searched this thread a bit, but didn’t find anything…)

Was in the Seattle SODO store for other reasons today - but had to cruise thru the wines. They had the 2019 Kirkland Brunello @ $21. Apparently, it’s made by Gianni Maccari. Not a name I know much about.

Picked up a couple, just to give it a try. I assume it’s built in a style for early drinking, so I’ll pop one soon to find out.

They also have the 2023 Saint Cosme CDR @ $11. Year after year, that wine so over-delivers for its price point. A great Wednesday night Syrah…

Also, for Oregon Pinot fans in the Seattle area…

The SODO store has the Drouhin Roserock Pinot Noir @ $30/bottle. That’s about $8/bottle less than Full Pull offered it at earlier this year – and I typically see that wine locally for around $40/bottle. The Costco price on the Roserock was actually a few bucks less than their price for the base Domaine Drouhin Pinot in the same rack.

I was just there yesterday and they didn’t have the Brunello out then. Which is a shame cause I had planned on getting one for an upcoming tasting. I shall have to swing by this weekend.

I haven’t had the '19 that I can recall, but do remember a prior vintage or two being solid and not a bad buy.

That having been said. $20 is about where I start having a preference for exploring more esoteric regions, or wineries’ second wines, around the world over buying a “discount brand.” Granted, I have this opinion in the context of having retail options and pricing in my market (L.A.) that is pretty great relative to nearly the entire rest of our county; I realize not everyone has the same opportunity, which would increase the attractiveness of some Kirkland bottlings.

I opened a bottle of Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja this evening. Not a bad daily drinker for $14.99 at my local Costco. I’ll be picking up a few more bottles.

Just to echo this on Saint Cosme’s Cotes du Rhone. I think it is the best value wine in the world, bar none at $16(US) which is my local price. At $11 it couldn’t be passed up, in my opinion. Louis Barruol must be some kind of genius because it’s great every year

Anyone know the item number. Not finding it in the app

This morning I saw customers piling cases upon cases in their carts.

Port shutdown panic?

My wife mentioned this and then I asked her if she really thought our Kirkland Greek Yogurt came from Greece and that the Kirkland Chicken Thighs that said raised in Georgia really came from the ex USSR.

It’s an amusing phenomenon.

  • the amount of toilet paper consumed in the USA within a given amount of time is almost 100% predictable. It doesn’t surprisingly go up or down because of pretty much anything.

  • as such, toilet paper producers churn out exactly the right amount, operating the production facilities at nearly 100% capacity.

  • not only does the industry have little ability to increase production because of irrational hoarding, they have no real incentive to do so. Make more now, you’ll just sell exactly that much less later.

  • and in this particular instance, it makes even less sense since most TP is produced in North America and so port closures have hardly any effect on the availability.

None of that is much consolation if you actually can’t obtain enough toilet paper for your home usage, I suppose, though we are very far from that being an issue right now.
