Well, not none, but not much. I bought Calon Segur, Palmer at $199, Siran. A few bottles of Lafite showed. Le Bosqc. That was about it inJacksonville
Dude, I never saw a single bottle. Three stores in Orlando. St. Augustine, Bradenton, pretty sure I hit Tampa, and probably one or two others I am forgetting. I did not ever make it into South Sarasota. I completely whiffed.
I was in Siesta Key for a week from Chicago and came back with Brane.
Vertical of Lafite ('95-'02-'05-'08-'12-'16) for $7k anyone? Pickup in Burbank.
Edit: they also have Dom 1976-2012 (24 bottle vertical) for $18k, Petrus 2007-2012 (6 bottles) for $35k, Margot 1979-2005 (25 bottles) for $40k, Latour 1985-2014 (30 bottle vertical ) for $38k, DRC and Mouton amongst others.
To point out the obvious, an unusual choice of vintages.
Out of curiosity, anyone have experience purchasing and ACTUALLY opening these big wines (1st growths, DRC, etc)? At least here in Chicago, none of these wines are stored at optimal temperatures⦠granted they donāt generally last long, but the wine locker happens to be near the pizza oven here
FWIW, I have taken a shot on a few 19 BDX 1st growths - guess Iāll know in 20-30y
I always kind of wonder about that myself as well for anything I want to put away for the long haul. I donāt have a close Costco, but NH State Outlets also keep a lot of stuff at room temp. I donāt mind buying Dom and Cristal from them because those are kept in the fridge, but there are other bottles I would buy to cellar but I donāt do it often because I just wonder about how long they have been hanging out at 70 degrees or worse.
I think about this every time I pass by one of those glass cases.
I purchased two Chateau Margaux at South Loop: out of the case and in the locker. They couldnāt have been there more than a day or two.
Anyway, Iāll let you know in 20 years.
None of the Costcos Iāve been nearly seem warm inside to the point I think it would affect a bottle which sat in the for a few days or weeks.
But Iām not one of those who thinks wine sitting at 70-75 makes any difference, unless maybe itās that way for years.
I have never bought or seen wines sold at costco that have any signs of heat damage or have been anything other than pristine. I canāt speak to tasting drc or first growths⦠yet⦠as I have yet to open any 2000 first growths bought 20 years ago (talk about a wish to time travel and buy more at $200 per)
In general I donāt see any difference between being on a shelf at costco and being on a wine store shelf, and dont see a few months at room temp to be a concern, but also know that costco pays a lot of attention to quality- used to know someone that worked in the quality department and he described the product testing they do, I dont think they would buy wine with dodgy provenance
If I was in the market for silly priced verticals of DRC, dom, etc, them being at costco would not concern me at all
100%
I went much deeper than normal, about 30 case and Iām sure Iāll still regret not buying more years down the road.
False. We had some in Boca.
OK, let me restate. There was so little 2019 Bordeaux in the entire that there might as well have been none.
@Robert.A.Jr What do think about that? We get a few bottles of 2019 into the state, and a darn northerner comes down and scoops them up?
Damn carpetbaggers!
Hope this doesnāt sting too muchā¦
LP Chicago this morning. 2019: 1 Petit Mouton and 7 Cos left.
Nah, I became numb to it. Once I had hit 6-8 Costcos around the state and had not seen a single bottle, I started losing hope. After a second round I accepted my fate.
I share your frustration with the selection in FL. I was SHOCKED the first time I saw a ā19 Bordeaux and while I wanted to clean out the bin, I decided to just buy 3 bottles so that other long suffering Boca costco wine lovers could rejoice at their find!
One less Cos at LP Chicago Costco. I passed on it about a week ago, but it kept nagging at me, and I looked up the 2022 EP pricing and then ran back to grab one.
Nice move! Suprised they survived a whole week!
