Official Costco Thread

I grew up not far from Gary, and just south of Merrillville. Given that, I could be sure there were no Costcos in Gary (or Whiting, East Chicago, etc). And while “The Region” may have a higher median income than average for Indiana, that’s not really a high bar to jump over. And I would really be surprised if the Merrillville Costco has the same level of wine selection as, say, the Costco in Lincoln Park, or North Shore burbs.

That being said, most of Lake County is in much better shape now than it was back in the 70s and 80s, when the steel industry cratered…

Any of the Indy area locations known to have a better selection/pricing than others?

Nah, not really. Just casual conversation. Everyone understood what I meant.

Which KC location did you see this at? Midtown? I snagged a few bottles of the 18’ at the Northland location late last year.

I’ve never been terribly impressed by the selection at the Costco in Castleton (Indianapolis). I’ve certainly never seen there any of the high end Burgundy, Bordeaux, or Champagne that shows up in this thread.

There’s supposed to be a new Costco opening in Noblesville that I’m hoping will have a better wine selection since Hamilton County is pretty affluent. But it’s still a year away from opening, so we’ll see.

Midtown. I believe I saw the '18 at the Midtown location last year also (and Smith Haut Lafitte?), but I’ve been hesitant to speculate on 2018s.

Which location?

How is the Cactus location selection generally? My closest is the Thomas Rd location (usually absolutely nothing there), but Cactus is generally not too far.

It is substantially better than the Thomas one…which i agree is generally pretty terrible. I used to say that the North Scottsdale location was the best by far but it has, sadly, declined so much. Now I’d say Cactus is almost on par, and often has some interesting bottles and good deals (no DRC or anything like the CA stores have though).

Those of you in Massachusetts the Avon Costco has a slightly better selection than Dedham, but still not as good as the Costcos with Haut-Brion.

Bump…no one in SF here?

Just picked up a few bottles of the 2020 Kirkland Chablis and saw there was a Kirkland Champagne for $19.99. First time seeing that, anyone have any experience with it?

I’ve got a couple, had one already, it’s nice enough; I hate to be ‘that guy’ but I think I prefer the ‘19’s for some reason but maybe these need a couple months to settle in (shipping shock etc.)

Not in SF, and I haven’t been in that store in a long time, but it used to be pretty good. years ago I picked up ‘98 Grange there.

Same here. I am within walking distance to the Danville Costco, but I used to go into the SF Costco when I worked there. I always thought their selection there was very good.

Plenty of times. Its a good deal for $20. I buy it frequently.

I have 2 friends in the Bay Area and between the 3 of us we check South SF, Foster City, Redwood City and Mountain View occassionally. Mountain View seems to be the best.

Best Costco I’ve seen so far is the one in Gypsum, Colorado. I’ve always found some great BDX there when visiting for xmas.

I compared the WS prices for the DRC packs vs Costco, and you can assemble the same deal for more than 20% less than that Costco pack…so it’s no deal!

That Gypson one is better than Redwood City and all the south Bay ones? We’ve been in there maybe a half dozen times over the years (after leaving EGE) and never seem to have hit at the right time…
