Had a bottle of 2013 Kirkland CCR last night. Cannot think of a better sub $9 I have had in a long, long time. Is it the greatest Chianti ever? No. Does it blow away other wines from our side of the pond under $20 a bottle? Yes, very much so.
Very slim pickings at #471 today. More Kirkland branded imported stuff than normal e.g. Kirkland CCR has shown up along with a Rioja. And the Kirkland 2016 Cote de Provence Rose is there too. Nothing piqued the interest.
I’d like to thank those in this thread about the Kirkland Wines. It’s something that I would never have given any consideration. The CCR and Cotes de Provence are amazing for sub $9. Exactly what I want to have stocked in the house for cheap everyday drinking.
Same here. I used to look at them and think, “no way!” But after reading this thread I took the plunge.
If you haven’t tried them, they aren’t amazing, but have no right to be as good as they are for the price. I probably wouldn’t pay double, but for parties or super cheap everyway drinking they are fine.
I would totally buy that if I saw it Buzz, but do you really feel that 2013 is a ripe vintage? Or did you mean to say 2015? I don’t think that is correct if you meant 2013. There was a lot of botrytis and rot, so there were issues caused by those conditions, and overall they lack the sort of acidic cut of 2014. So they are soft, round even (and I don’t mean that in a complementary way at all), without being ripe. My understanding and experience indicate that 2014 is a riper vintage albeit one with awesome acids and perhaps perfect balance.
Well, ripe like in more tropical fruit, way less cut than 14…and as you say a rounder style. I’ve been drinking a lot of 14’s…so that’s what came across to me on that 13.
CAUTIONARY NOTE!!! I read the thread about the L Martini Alexander Valley that received a 97 from parker. So I was in the East Anchorage Costco yesterday and lo and behold The L Martini Alexander Valley CS with a big gold 97 pts Wine Advocate Sticker. So I bought a few to try. Unfortunately for me the wine I bought was the '13 vintage. I thought that was a bit unethical and was surprised Costco allowed it. BUYER BEWARE.
That and they probably keep their skus constant over multiple vintages so its easier to put out a comprehensive list of prior vintages than to wait and print for the current one. I don’t think there is an intent to deceive, but perhaps I am mistaken.
