Quite enjoyed an Opolo Paso Zin for $13. Huge fruit bomb, not as balanced as, say Ravenswood, but a real crowd pleaser. They also had the Riedel glasses, Anchor San Francisco gin, High West double rye, a lot of good stuff.
Insane deal on leftover Christmas mags at Costco in Burbank, Ca. Brewer Clifton Pinot and Chardonnay 2015 Santa Rita Hills 35$ and 25$ per magnum respectively. Etude 2014 Grace Benoist Pinot also 35$ per mag. Mount Veeder 6L is 75$ and a bunch of others that I am now forgetting. The wine department guy, Ernie, also said that the 3 pack of 06’ Dom with the ice bucket may be reduced from 450$ down to 350$ fairly soon.
I’d totally buy several Mount Veeder Cab 6Ls for $75/per. I’d also buy that Dom at that price. Brewer Clifton, not my style.
We don’t get that kind of thing at the STL Costco, more like good prices on daily drinkers. Cune Riserva, Monstanto CCR, some decent white burg values. Yet to find anything really exciting, but a totally good place to buy everyday wines.
That is still a good deal. I don’t know if that wine is any good or not now, but I drank through a fair amount of 2001 and 2002, the latter was doing really well at ten years of age or so. Not an OTT wine. I seem to see it more often now however, and wonder if its made the same.
anyone have any experience with short-term aging the Kirkland Chateauneuf du Pape? I got a few bottles 1-2 years ago of the 2013 vintage and had a bottle or two that I thought were just OK, but I held onto them to see if age might help. However, the 2007 CdP thread bloodbath is making me even more skeptical haha, esp if this is just a value bottling and not something necessarily meant to age…
2015 Commanderie de la Bargemone Coteaux d’Aix en Provence Rose
Redwood City Costco currently has a $5 per bottle instant rebate bringing the price on these down to $7.99/bottle. Not a Bandol, but a very decent rose for quaffing when BBQ season hits.
Just when I’d finally about given up on the Irvine Costco’s boring wine selection, ta da, 2013 Flaccianello today for $97. And Monsanto CCR (2012?) for $17.
My Costco always has the Monsanto CCR at $17. They’ve moved from '12 to '13 now. I buy a couple whenever I’m there as this is a go-to for us with pizza or red sauce pasta. I’m currently drinking '09 and '10, and I think I’m out of '07 and '08 but may have a couple hiding somewhere. To me these are ideal pizza wines at about age 8-10.
Mine also has the '12 CVNE Reserva for $14, which is a very good price. I tried one, and while nothing special now, I have a sneaking suspicion that ten years will turn it into serious wine and I may be wishing I’d backed up the truck.
